Do such things even exist, anymore? I'm not looking for one for Seattle, by the way; I'm looking for gothy mailing lists/forums for SF, L.A., Portland (OR), and NYC. Yes, this is all about promoting the Gothic Charm School book tour. ::grin::

So! Anyone have any leads or suggestions?

Gothic Charm School postcards!

I know I've asked this before, but we now have the postcards in hand and want to get specific details from those of you willing to distribute some Gothic Charm School postcards. We'll call you "GCS Ambassadors" for short...

Anyway, what we'd like to know is:

  • Where are you?

  • Where are you planning on distributing the cards? Stores? Clubs? Events? Can you give us specific info?

  • How many cards do you need? We have lots, so just tell us and we'll worry about whether we have enough.

If you are able to be a GCS Ambassador, post a comment here with your answers to those questions, and I'll send you a PM with more info and to get your mailing address.

I'd be happy to- I can get a lot of the Inland Empire/LA area- I might even be able to have a friend help me with the OC.
Not sure how many I'd need- I guess that depends on how many people you've got out here helping.

Not overly active but http://groups.yahoo.com/group/lagwts/

They have had really nice events in the past.

  • Kirkland, near exit 17 off 405
  • Stores, and maybe teen centers. Techno events & clubs.
  • Hmm. A couple of dozen should do it. It all depends on who'll let me leave cards, and how many.

I have contacts at Borderlands Books in SF, and would be delighted to introduce you. They can probably give you more information about goth mailing lists in SF, as they are working with a similar audience.

I'd love to hand out postcards!
I'm in New York city. I can give out, hang up and put the cards down any place in the city and will probably focus on the down town area and the village where there are many goth and alternative shops and clubs. I guess I could start with 50-100 cards. Unless that is way too much.

Thank you! I just tried to PM you, but LJ said you had privacy options enabled. Could you please email me with your mailing address at jilli (at) gothic-charm-school (dot) com? Thank you!

This is a public service announcement! Jilli is even more arachnophobic than I am, which is saying a lot, so there is a chance she will smash her computer screen with a shoe when she sees your comment. That would be sad.

I'd hand out postcards! I'm thinking QXT's in Newark (NJ), and there's a club in New Brunswick I go to with a few friends sometimes; the name escapes me at the moment. Maybe 30-50 of them?

I'd love to be a GCS Ambassador!d Heck, I might even dress up to distribute ;>.

Bothell/King County
Can distribute in books stores in Bothell/Woodinville - and can go to Snohomish as well.
How many would you like me to distribute in this area? Remember, it's a bastion of R votes in the D world that is Western WA - but I'll be hitting the book stores, so I should find *some* folks interested ;>.

You might contact jack at the Portland Hallowe'en Bazaar (http://www.portlandhalloweenbazaar.com/) they have advertising space in the program for cheap and for $10 they will add cards to the treat bags for customers. Click on vendor registration. If you need a booth to do this ask if it can be added on to my booth fees and I'll take care of it.
My guess is you already have Steamcon covered but I'll put cards on my table if you like.

Vivace on Broadway sees hundreds a day and thousands during a week, they have a lovely counter space where many folks leave business cards, post cards advertising various up coming events and other promotions. Also, if you still have contacts at MS every kitchen has a bulletin board so possibly get in contact with whomever monitors those.

I'm in Connecticut, which is sort of out of the target zone, but I could probably put some cards out at Ceremony in Boston, Haven in Northampton, and Ulteria in New Haven, if you want them there!

Lists

There's the PIG List - Portland Industrial Goths
and there's a few other Portland Goth groups, also.
Jack @ the H'ween Bazaar is a good person to contact.

Best wishes,

I'd be happy to help! I'm in Canada as you know, and I'd love to get a stack of postcards from you (I can put one in with every order, worldwide). Mailing address is here: http://www.artofadornment.ca/catalog/about.php

:)

From: [identity profile] valerian.livejournal.com

Oh, I should add if you want to target a specific area (eg. US-only) I can just add cards to those orders. I do about 100 orders a month overall so send as many cards as you like.

I can send some out with copies of my book if you'd like. I'm near Ashland, OR - about 4 hours south of Portland.

I like to think of myself as the first GCS Ambassador! Or if not the first, than one of the early people to distribute GCS materiel.

I would love to have a few to take to the Teen Center in Redmond. I've mentioned your website a few times, and tried to explain the reasoning behind "impeccable manners" when one is not of the mainstream.

And in case I haven't said this before: CONGRATULATIONS!!

I look forward to getting my signed copy for my "local authors I've met/known" collection, then curling up and reading your lovely prose.

I could probably take some to the red square or starbucks or, maybe, Powell's.

You do know I have one Yahoo email that is on over 600 yahoo groups for.
I have this silly LJ as you see by its user info on every large goth, steampunk, alt group that is worth posting to on LJ.
I run about 5 diff myspaces that if you add up there people is well over 10 thousand that the book is going to be posted about dew to me running the my spaces and what I say goes.
Add to that all the facebook groups I am that totals to well over 15 millon people.
Also add to that the key people you know in the click who will pimp your book... this will be easy and word will be gotten out that the book is there.Add to that the press, Andrew at MTV is already talking to his boss about covering the picnic and so forth.

so with the above and every one else your going to be gold.

**Where are you?**

Ann Arbor, MI

**Where are you planning on distributing the cards? Stores? Clubs? Events? Can you give us specific info?**

Club - The Necto: Monday nights are "Factory Nights". Goth, Industrial, Synthpop. It's a very popular club in Ann Arbor. http://www.thenecto.com/

Stores - Vault of Midnight Comic Shop and any music shop that will allow me to drop off the postcards. Most of them will. Possibly Zingerman's Deli. http://www.vaultofmidnight.com/

Coffee shops - tons of them around here. I know at least one owner that would let me plaster his front door with postcards - it's called Bombadill's.

Events - Ann Arbor Art Fair - 500,000+ people visit this fair every year. I can put postcards in shops where people go for sweet, sweet A/C. http://www.artfair.org/

**How many cards do you need? We have lots, so just tell us and we'll worry about whether we have enough.**

At least 500. I can put 100 each in Bombadill's and Vault of Midnight, easy. At least 200 at The Necto. And probably another 100 between other shops. More than 500 if I can hit Art Fair.

From: [identity profile] orthoepy.livejournal.com

I can drop off 100 cards each at Third Coast Comix and Quimby's Queer store in Chicago ...

Where are you?

Washington, DC suburbs-I work in the city though!

Where are you planning on distributing the cards? Stores? Clubs? Events? Can you give us specific info?

Local clubs, bars, bookstores. There are a lot of independent owners that I know here, and I know lots of college students (specifically, NOVA Community College, George Mason University, and VCU in Richmond)

How many cards do you need?

Oh, I don't know...30-50?

I think NYC is already covered, but just in case, Contempt (the club night I'm involved with) is having their 11th anniversary masquerade thingy on June 19th, I'd be more than happy to put out promo materials. :)

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

Oooh, that would be fantastic! I'm pretty sure [livejournal.com profile] marc17 still has a stack of cards, so I'll ask him to get them to the studio.

From: [identity profile] chuckiebear.livejournal.com

Awesome!

I'm going to have art in Crypticon this weekend and could hand out some there as well.

From: [identity profile] staysonpaper.livejournal.com

Hi, I am an entirely random person who wandered over from [livejournal.com profile] kambriel's LJ, but I have been entertained by your advice since considerably before the name change (I think I first found you on gothic.net?). I work at a club in Baltimore, MD where I could certainly put some postcards, if somewhere so far from the areas you're looking for would help. We certainly get more Neo-Victorian types at Ascension than anywhere else I have been. I also sell jewelry at the clubs in DC sometimes, but I am in the middle of a move and not scheduled to do so any time soon. But if you happened to feel like sending some cards out here, I would do my best to ensure that they made their way into the right hands.

Also, I believe I will add you, if that's all right.
