The Stroppy One, because he is wonderful like that, decided not only that he would drive me into work this morning, but that we would detour and stop at Cafe Besalu to get good coffee. Mmmm, good coffee.

In other news, I need to decide what examples of good vampire fiction I am taking with me on the Sparkle Road Trip, as I have been asked to read excerpts from Cupcake Goth -approved books. So far I'm thinking Dracula (of course!), Anno Dracula, Vampire Kisses, and maybe the Stephen King short story about 'Salem's Lot. I have to check my book collection and see if I've got that anthology.

(I am probably going to be Twittering various updates from the Sparkle Road Trip, if you are interested in that sort of thing.)

I ... do not want to be at the office. No, I want to hop on a bus and go thrift shopping. Go on, look surprised at this, I know you want to.

I totally hear you on the thrift shopping. Tomorrow, the day shall start with dim sum, then I head to the magic of Goodwill Outlet.

I have never read Anno Dracula. How did that happen?! Must seek out to read it at some point!

I read Fledgling, and it just didn't grab me. Which is a shame, because I know other people are very fond of it.

Have you read Slave of My Thirst by Tom Holland? It's set in Victorian England and India. I received this as a gift and it took me forever to get around to reading it, but I did enjoy it once I got to it.

And a very belated congratulations on your book!

Aww, thank you!

And yes, I have read Slave of My Thisrt. I thought it was fun.

I know you're not super fond of the vampire books with lots of sexing, but I love love love the Southern Vampire Series (aka: Sookie Stackhouse novels): http://www.vampirelibrary.com/books/harris.htm

No, no! I'm totally fine with vampire books with lots of sexing*! I just want the sexing to be well-written, and, well, for the vampires to be actual VAMPIRES.

*Believe me, I have a collection of vampire smut. I just don't talk about it much.

EDIT: and I am not talking about the smutty smutty vampire fanfic I read. But my goodness! Vampires! Smut!

Oh hey! I guess I misunderstood you once when we were talking vampire fic ;)

And Sookie's vampires are pretty dang traditional; most similar to Anne Rice/Salem's Lot*, I think.

EDIT: *In that they sleep in coffins or underground, can't be out in the daylight, turned by blood transfer, undead, require blood for survival, can be killed by staking/beheading, and need to be invited into a home

OH! I spot the "Transitive Vampire"! I bought that from your glowing recommendation months and months ago and I adore it.

Other vampire novels? Christopher Moore's vampire novels. "The Historian". Poppy Z Brite?

Hey - I don't know if anyone mentioned this yet, but I visited the Commons on campus today. They have Caffe Vita coffee - both in brewed drinks, and beans to buy.

I saw this, and after I did literal prostrations of thanks in front of the barista, I thought of you.
