My apologies to anyone who is bee-phobic. Just scroll past.

We had a swarm of bees in our back yard today! A huge one! 6+ feet straight up of beeeeeeeeees. I could hear the buzzing from inside the house.

We found a local Bee Guy, who came over and collected them. He just scooped them off of the apple tree branches they were on, into bee boxes. The boxes are currently sitting in the back yard, and he'll come back later tonight to get them, after the bees have settled down.

Bee Guy said that it looks like they had just started swarming, following their queen to start a new hive, so we caught them at the exact right time for them to be moved.

Bees!

BEEEEEEEES.

(I like bees. They pollinate! They make honey!)

(And yes, my brain went straight to Jupiter Ascending and "Bees can sense royalty". Because OF COURSE! ::GRIN::

So happy they were caught at the right time for relocation. I need to refill the water set up for the bees here.

How wonderful! I have a healthy respect for pollinator species. I grow lots of veggies for us, and make sure to also plant a mix of flowers (wild and cultured) to attract pollinators. My seed packets are separated into ziploc bags by location and use. I have two bags labeled in turn 'tall pollinator plants' 'shorter pollinator plants'. :) hurray for bees (and butterflies, birds, etc)!
