Job hunt, and recurring dreams.

Today was the second phone screen interview for a job I want. The HR person got back to me with enthusiastic comments and a request for writing samples, so I think that's a good sign. Now to wait to see if they want to schedule me for an in-person interview. I hope so, because this company seems pretty good, and I've heard good things from friends who work there.

For the past few weeks I've had ... not quite the same dream over and over, but a recurring theme. (NOT a recurring theme of my usual stress dreams either, thank goodness!) In the dreams, I'm either getting two particular tattoos or I already have these two tattoos, and neither of the tattoos are the design I was thinking of getting as my next ink.^*

The dream tattoos, the first: along the outside of my left forearm, the phrase "Sic gorgiamus allos subjectatos nunc", in the same font as my other text tattoo. Yes, the Addams family motto, which is something I've considered as a tattoo for decades, even if the actual translation of that Latin text ISN'T “We gladly feast upon those who would subdue us", and is instead pretty much gibberish. (Oh hey, I made a Tumblr post about that a while ago.)

The dream tattoo, the second: Along the outside of my of my right forearm, and in some dreams, twining around the words of the Addams family motto on my left forearm, twining blackberry vines. Vines with leaves, fruit, and a few blossoms, done in black and gray shading. Essentially, having sleeves of blackberry vines. Which is something I've never thought about before, but is a lovely notion.

I am going to give serious thought (more than I already have, which is saying something) to getting the Addams' motto inked on me. I've wanted it since I first saw the movie, and I don't think I really care that the Latin is gibberish. *I* would know what it means. As for the blackberry vine sleeves? I don't know. Blackberries are my favorite fruit, and a sure sign of autumn, my favorite season ...


^*The next tattoo I *thought* I was getting is the symbol of the Order of the Dragon, in honor of Vlad III Dracula.

I would say that of you love the Adams Family motto and the Blackberry vines but are not sure about a sleeve then you have the motto inked and surrounded by the Blackberry vines. Later if you like it and wish to make a sleeve out of it then you can do it gradually as if the vines were working their way up your arm. If you choose not to go the sleeve rout then you still have your two favorite tattoos that look awesome together.

I think the blackberries are a good idea, but i think they need to have thorns. Like roses, blackberries need to have thorns.

and you are not alone in the consideration of the family motto. Not by a long shot, I am sure, but I have certainly considered it as well.

My buddy Jerm would totally love to do that, I'm sure. And that's, MAYBE, an hour. If you get me a PDF or something with the font you want, I can talk to him next time I see him and we can look at sizing. He's at Laughing Buddha, so just down the road. He did one for my (whatever) Kat this last Saturday.

Get me a higher res version of the Order of the Dragon symbol, color choices (or just black/grey), location, and I can off the top of my head think of 4 tattoo artists who'd love to do it. I'd kinda lean towards Thomas, though Dag (no relation), who does mine, would dig it, Ben could totally do it, Jerm definitely.

Alas, I have no budget for tattoos right now. And while I always like getting recs and seeing artwork from tattoo artists, I do have a usual guy I go to, Joe Who at Pierced Hearts. He's done my last five pieces. ::grins::

Also, it seems pretty clear that the Powers That Be and my subconscious are telling me that the next tattoo needs to be the Addams Family motto. Time to start saving my pennies!

There is also the option of “Laeti Vescimur Nos Subacturis”, which is real Latin and translates to “Gladly/Joyful Feed Upon Subdue-rs”, probably a closer version to the motto.

While it might not be a literal translation, the saying could possibly be a colloquialism that means what they say. Going from actual meaning to implied meaning into English, things could get hairy.

Shouldn't there be fanfic out there someplace explaining this? one would think so.

I'd definitely go for the real Latin, just because the incorrect translation would tweak me -- but perhaps with some Addams-ish bats around it, and in the Addams Family font?

They say great minds think alike, I am getting the same on my left forearm as well, on the 6th. So excited, as its has been quite a wait (booked in July).
