I was semi-productive this evening (I edited a GCS post and did the prep work so it can be published tomorrow), but writing on The Other Project just wasn't happening.

So I decided to procrastinate in a useful manner. Behold, a chart of all my lipsticks:

Yep, just as I suspected. My One True Color (and I've been saying it's my One True Color for ages) is Chanel Vamp. Which is discontinued, argh! The closest duplicate for it is Noir Red by Besame, and you guessed it, also discontinued.

But now I have a Helpful Chart to reference in the future, right?

still keeping my eyes peeled for a good replacement. as you know. I will let you know if/when I find one.

...that's all your lipsticks?

First Fluevogs, now lipstick. I'm surprised at the ways in which I exceed you. ;)

Ha! No, that's not ALL my lipsticks - you'll note there aren't any of the black shades/finishes on there, nor are the 3(?) pink ones. This is more a Handy Comparison Chart for the quest of finding a Vamp clone.

... I had a vague memory that you wore a wider variety of lipstick colors than me, so I'm not surprised that you probably have a larger collection. :-)

It's a shame there aren't places you can go to have a lipstick custom-made in situations like this.

you make make-up seem fun and not scary!

Vamp is my default lipstick too. I currently have 2 tubes sockes away in a cool, dark place, in addition to the in-use tube. But I vary what I wear daily -- butgundies, red-browns, purples, & dark pinks. Seems that all my faves get discontinued, but at least I use them up more slowly.

I wouldn't be surprised if Vamp doesn't come back in a year or two -- I just saw in a magazine how the 90s dark lipsticks are coming back, so.

There are companies that do custom lipsticks; this, for one: http://www.threecustom.com/home.php?cat=385

I know nothing about them, but they might be useful.

I know it probably won't work, but have you tried writing to Chanel and requesting the color come back?

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

You can, by a company called Three Custom Color. The only drawback is that you have to purchase at least two tubes at a time, which is $60 before shipping.

Chanel has released a new lipstick formulation (Rouge Allure), and there's a "Rouge Noir" color in it. BUT - it's not the same color formula as Vamp. The new Rouge Noir is brown-based and sheerer in texture, and thus useless to me. Woe!

This reminds me, I need to take a look at the Big Autumn issue of Vogue and see if I want to purchase it.

I saw the same article (I think) and was going to mention it on the board, but I couldn't figure out what ginormous September issue it was in. Either Elle or Vogue...

I've worked for MAC for almost a decade now, might I suggest a MAC Pro color called "Sin"? It's only available at MAC Pro stores but you could purchase a tube by calling their (800) number if you don't have a "pro" store in your city. It's darker, and less purpl-ey than Media.

Oooooh! Thank you for letting me know!

... hmmm. There's no way to use the Back2Mac recycling program to get a Pro color, is there?

From: [identity profile] solarflare78.livejournal.com

Yes, you could get Sin for back to MAC, but you would have to go into a pro store in person to do it.
