Ugh

([personal profile] cupcake_goth Feb. 21st, 2012 04:11 pm)
I don't have time to be fighting off a cold. Alas, I don't think my immune system is listening to my willpower. So much for the To Do list I had planned for today. Instead, I am bundled up on the couch and watching Mary Poppins.

Which leads me to ask, how do I forget EVERY TIME how much I loathe Dick Van Dyke in this movie? Especially considering the Stroppy One will rant about his loathing for that actor at the merest mention of the movie? Anyway, Dick Van Dyke's "performance" is the main reason I want to see a remake of the movie. However, Julie Andrews is perfect, and I can't imagine anyone improving her on her performance.

Oh! My copy of Timeless, the last Parasol Protectorate book, arrived yesterday. I finished it last night, and loved it. I'm kind of sad this is the last book of the series, because there are plot developments I would LOVE to see more of.

---

Ugh. I feel wretched. Send tea and cupcakes.

I hope you got the cold I had. It started out last Wednesday night with a strong appearance, pottered along a typical cold arc, and, after threatening to really flare up again Sunday, was gone this morning. And good riddance!

Yes, Dick Van Dyke is strange in that, and the character's none too great either. I'd love to see a Mary Poppins remake. That version kept some of the acidity, but not enough. And a remake could omit the WTF penguins.

ETA: That isn't "I hope you got my cold" but "I hope you got this cold that gets it over with quickly" and leaves you feeling well again!!

My electronic copy is not available until MARCH, what fuckery is this? I may have to take myself to B&N tomorrow with a magnifier and read it there with a cupcake, I can't wait another week!

If anyone should get that exception, my very dear, it should be you.

According to Van Dyke, his accent coach was Irish, who "didn't do an accent any better than I did."

I submit for your consideration....

Emilie Autumn as Mary Poppins.

Oh goodness, no. She's not the right temperament at all to play Mary Poppins. Yes, acting, I know, but the cognitive dissonance from trying to imagine EA as Ms. Poppins is ... wow. ::tilts head::

To be fair, the cognitive dissonance is kind of hilarious ^___^

Did I tell you that I'm rerooting a Monster High Cupid as Emilie right at this very moment?

*mwah!*

Oooh, she's coming to our local Powell's book next week to promote Timeless.. and I'm the dumdum that signed up to work OT. :/

And I totally agree about Dick Van Dyke in that movie. Maybe they can do some sort of live action/CGI hybrid where they remake the movie but recast everyone but Mary Poppins.

I just finished Blameless...reading online...heh. I want to read the rest but can't find Heartless, so I think it's time to hook up my computer so I can download it on tpb where I'm sure it exists.

It's not that I don't want to pay for it...it's that I can't find time to read books in book form. I only read novels at work, and therefore they need to be on screen or on my phone. ><

They're pretty good though. I wish steampunk didn't always mean vampires and werewolves (?!?! whyyy) but I enjoy them nonetheless.

Just for giggles

(With thanks to The 13th Warrior and all Nordic people everywhere.)

Lo, there do I see my eyeliner;
Lo, there do I see my boots, and my hair dye, and my jewelry;
Lo, there do I see the line of Goths, back to the beginning;
Lo, they do call to me; they bid me take my place among them,
In the houses of great music, where the brave may dance forever.

I am become Death, destroyer of khaki.
