I like Marilyn Manson. I think he's very talented at crafting crunchy pop metal songs, he's a genius at promotion, and the videos are always fabulous to look at.

Marilyn Manson's music is not Goth. However, I'm pretty damn sure that he himself fits into the Goth scene. If the legions of SpoooooookyKids who sprung up in his wake hadn't proclaimed themselves Goth, things would be a lot better, this is true. But in terms of being dedicated to an outlandish appearance and a darkly decadent atmosphere? Manson is far more goth than a bunch of folks. If AntiChrist Superstar had NOT been the multi-million selling album it was, but merely a cult hit, there would probably be a lot more Goths okay with the idea of Marilyn Manson.

This is all prompted by my watching the latest MM video ("mOBSCENE"), and wanting all of his clothes. A blood-red silk top hat w/ faux corset lacing! A severe b&w pinstripe men's dress shirt!

I need to check and see if all the Manson videos have been released on dvd.

That's a dead-on critique of both Manson & goths. His sound has never done much for me though. My not-so-guilty pleasure? Nine Inch Nails. I freaked my brother-in-law by calling NiN catchy.

Oh, NiN is catchy. I listened to Pretty Hate Machine again recently and was surprised at how ... poppy it sounded.

Manson does great angry pop songs. I can't stand the NuMetal bands (Korn, Limp Bizkit, Pennywise, etc.), but will cheerfully sing along with Manson songs. They're wonderful catharsis music for when I'm really stressed.

The Husband called to let me know he just picked up the new Manson cd, and that it comes with some sort of dvd. I can only hope it's some of the videos.

I hope so! That is the version I ordered for Rory.

Seemed silly to spend the same amount and NOT get the dvd...

Fred Meyer always has good prices on CDs during their first week of release. MM limited edition was $13 before tax.
