I think I want to fiddle with my look a bit. Because while I love love love my hoop skirts and crinolines, I think I might (might!) want to try a skirt style that fits slightly (and I mean slightly) closer to the actual outline of my hips, which then gets really REALLY full (but without hoops or crinolines) starting about knee-length. Vaguely Edwardian in shape.
I may try a test run of this at home with the flamenco skirt that is 8 gores and trimmed in huge ruffles. I normally wear it over a hoop, but I'll see if wearing it by itself sets off the screaming of the Body Image Monsters. I hope it doesn't, especially since I'd still be wearing jackets with peplums or skirts that drape (well, hide) the hips. I would just be shooting for a somewhat sleeker silhouette.
Of course, if I (and The Husband) like this look, then there are a whole bunch of new skirts in my future.
(I think I can partially blame this on
radcliffe, who looked LOVELY in gored skirts with bustles. Still floofy, still flouncy, but a sleeker, slimmer line through the hips. All your fault, missy.)

Free time? Argh, I don't know. Things are starting to get really busy, but I'll make some, oh yes I will.

And yeah, it is a good way to do sleek with keeping all the fullness and the historic look. So many options with it too! I loved wearing the bustle skirts and felt really good in them, I think the trick is to not have it go out at the sides, but to keep it with back fullness. I have yet to try it with day wear though.
And I should mention how flattered I am that you liked the look :> a high compliment indeed!
