The weekend in Portland for the Vampire Ball was wonderful. We stayed with [livejournal.com profile] cass404, and spent time with [livejournal.com profile] flyingtapes, two of my chosen family. We made the traditional pilgrimage to Powell's, where I purchased some new vampire books (mmm, genre fiction), and went up to the Rare Book Room to visit the signed 1st edition of Dark Carnival by Ray Bradbury. (Dark Carnival was the first book Ray Bradbury ever published.)

The Vampire Ball was lovely, as always. A venue full of people dressed up in dark-themed finery? One of my favorite things, and this year the eye candy was even better than in previous years. (Well, there were some outfits that made me want to gently shake the wearers while muttering "What were you thinking?", but I did not give in to those evil urges. Yes, the Stroppy One took photos (he was in charge of the camera), but (a) not a lot of them, and (b) we haven't downloaded them yet.

[livejournal.com profile] mineke outdid herself on my outfit. Katie, I promise I won't make you sew anything involving velvet and bazillions of covered buttons again.

There's a bunch of other stuff I want to write about, but I'm tired. And tomorrow, I must start working on the 2nd revision pass of the GCS manuscript, because the deadline for it is very tight. (By the way, have I recently mentioned that I have my advance uncorrected proofs? BECAUSE I DO, WHEEEE!)

It looks like Gothicbeagle has some Vampire Ball (http://www.flickr.com/photos/gothicbeagle/sets/72157616099859998/) photo's posted.

I just have to say your outfit was amazing really.

Re: bad clothing: I KNOW. There were a few people where I was thinking, Ummmm if you're going to make something that fancy, shouldn't you make a mock-up out of cheap fabric just to make sure it fits? Or the people who, if I had to guess, had never been to a goth event or club?

But! There were indeed some lovely outfits. I was particularly fond of a woman in 1910's clothing with a wonderful hat.

It was good to meet you! I'm glad you had a good time in Portland. :^)

Yes indeed! That was one of my favorites as well. She looked like a gothic Poiret drawing.

*looks up Poiret*

Yes!! We are definitely thinking of the same woman.

It was a wonderful time and wonderful to see you and your entourage as usual.

I thought, overall, there were less of the "What were you thinking!?!" outfits this year than in previous years (though there were one or two that I was tempted to ask if they thought this was actually a Camarilla Larp). There were a lot of really splendid looking folks there!

It was good to see you and the Stroppy one! I hope you both had a fabulous time!

I hope you enjoy my book. A lot of love and effort went into that. I've added you, I hope you don't mind. :)
