I've got a doctor's appointment this afternoon; I suppose there's no chance of being given laudanum, drat it all.

I once bought myself a bottle of very nasty cough medicine, simply because skullcap & chloroform were amongst the ingredients! I kept the bottle for months, just to show it off really, I couldn't bear the stuff! I'm such a wuss, I need medicines intended for children, if I am going to get them down.

Sadly, the only time they're likely to give you laudanum is if you have some horrific, disgusting digestive problem, and they need to stop peristalsis entirely. They're terribly reluctant to give it out for pain relief these days.

I should probably not point out that it is perfectly legal to grow true opium poppies, and that the manufacture of laudanum, while illegal, is both unobtrusive and uncomplicated.
