While at Bats Day, I finally gave into temptation and purchased the Calico Jack scent locket from BPAL.

It's gorgeous, and I love it. I am planning on making a necklace for it, but am dithering about what materials to use. Of course I'm going to use silver spacers and bead caps, but I can't decide if I want to use black glass faceted beads, or black glass pearls. And since LJ has this terribly handy "Create a Poll" feature ...

A few actual black pearls would probably also look very cool, with perhaps a few small mother-of-pearl beads as well.

Black glass 'pearls'.

One: the smoothness and simplicity of the locket demands that you use smooth, simple black 'pearls' (with silver spacers and bead caps to "tie in" with the silver of the locket) from an aesthetic standpoint.

Two: You can't have a pirate-themed locket and resist the urge to match it with "Black Pearl". You just can't.

use real pearls and obsidian beads. OR use aurora black swarovski crystals. Or both.

You went to the lengths of buying this expensive and lovely thing; it seems silly to string it on just *glass* (and you know I love glass).

Black pearls, with some pink seed bead strands sort of looped down, spanning across about 3 or 4 pearls. I'm not explaining this well...

To be honest, I would use metal spacers that match the metal tone on the locket, and then i would use varying bone beads. (some of which can be black. I feel bone adds a nice creepy touch when people find out what it is, but it's no stranger than wood.)

Black glass pearls and pink glass pearls sounds like an amazing combination.

Possibly a combination of black faceted beads and pink glass pearl beads.

I would get the larger black beads with more facets for an even fancier look.

black lava

I have seen lovely black lava round beads.
I also dig bone beads.
There is the extra cool bead store down on Roosevelt that had
walrus carved bone beads of gorgeousness.

But I must admit, pink is so you.
If you were in Captain Jacks crew, I think he would expect it.

ooh!

Let me search through all the beading things I was planning on getting rid of and see what I have. I think I have black swarovski pearls *somewhere* that you can have. I'm getting rid of most of my beading stuff so they will not be missed.

You're getting rid of your beading stuff? Why? Just not working with it anymore?

Beads

I think you should use real pearls if your skin will allow it, mine is
too acidic and they start decomposing which is unfortunate, If you
can use the real thing, it should a mix of black and pink with maybe
a ratio of 2 black pearls to every pink pearl with the silver spacers
flanking each set.
