I'm beginning to think that some sort of "This is what Eldergoth looks like" resource is becoming necessary. Hm. Perhaps I need a new project...

I left my now ex when I was 30. I walked into Lane Bryant a month later to find out they had a clue again and there were all these burnout velvet tops and such. My black little Gothy heart squeed and I started building my first ever really Gothy wardrobe - because many things just weren't made for larger women when I was younger and I didn't really learn to sew.

My wardrobe became decidedly darker and contrasted with dark jewel tones and tended towards a lot of velvet. It's funny in that my wardrobe became more... dressy. Back then I was also still driving an automatic so I started building a collection of rings I would wear daily. No one really said anything to me about it but then one day I was introduced to a new employee in our group as follows: "This is Tammy with the secret life nobody knows about!"

*blink*blink*

I found I was amused and surprised. I adjust my wardrobe depending on where I'm working though it's still goth. I suppose I might be more daring if I were a FT perm employee somewhere again but as a contractor I feel the need to tone it down a bit - depending on where I'm working. I still need to learn to sew and they still don't make much in the way of Victorian wear in my size but I do what I can. I'll admit to being lazy about make-up though... I suppose I compensate when I go out clubbing though.

I've long said that our generation is going to re-define what people expect "old people" to do or wear because I really don't see me suddenly developing a love for polyester floral prints and pastels. Heck - Ambrose is 60 now and he neither looks nor acts like the "old man" he's supposed to be.

that's a great article.

besides being supportive and informative, you made me giggle out loud with this:
"Choose garments and accessories because you like them and they’re flattering, instead of choosing them merely because the items in question are Very Gothic Looking."

Wow.

I don't remember writing you recently. Seriously. This sound like it could have come out of my mouth. Go read the husband's posting in his journal today:

He's even commented on it!

You have been mentioned in the post BTW.

Goth on Tuesdays

Thank you! I'm not dealing with the too-old-for-goth issue, merely the getting-back-into-it, but that was very inspiring nonetheless.
