Behold, my snarklings,
kambriel on the red carpet at the opening of the Gothic: Dark Glamour exhibit at the Fashion Institute of Technology.
This clicky-link is to her post that has links to the various coverage about the weekend.
This clicky-link is to Amazon to pre-order the book about the exhibit. (And you'd better
believe I've ordered my copy already!)
I am so, SO giddy with delight about the amount of positive coverage and rave reviews this exhibit is getting. It shows how influential and far-reaching the Gothic subculture is, and spotlights the creativity, joy, and whimsy that is at the core of the subcultural identity.
I've said it in assorted people's LJs, but I also want to say it here in mine: congratulations
kambriel! I am proud (and very lucky!) to call you a friend, and you deserve every bit of success that comes your way.

I haven't gotten a chance to start posting my own photos from the event yet (there are many!), but I do think you'd appreciate this little tidbit:

It was very important to me to use this as an opportunity to shine a positive light on the Gothic scene. I actually did an interview with New York Magazine (hopefully I'll find a copy when it comes out), and at one point the reporter wanted me to mention some of the gothic stereotypes, and I absolutely didn't. I just kept thinking those things have been mentioned enough times and didn't need to be mentioned again ~ even if the entire first half of the sentence would be about how completely false they were, I just didn't ever think they needed to be in print. So I focused on all the positive aspects instead and tried to show how there's so much more to it than rebellious teens, and obviously there are reasons why some of us have stayed entranced for decades now :)

Consoling myself with the reality that I wouldn't look one-hundredth as good in it as she does. But nom d'nom, WANT. Fantastic dress.
