On Saturday, the Stroppy One took my antique mini pocket watch pendant to the Ballard Time Shop for repairs. (I was busy babysitting Princess Tickybox, which was fun but exhausting. Toddlers really like to take their clothes off and run around the house, go figure.)

I just heard back from the Time Shop: $300 to repair and clean the watch, and they can't actually guarantee that the watch would work even after those repairs. I can't afford that right now (not to mention that I don't know if I would ever want to spend that sort of money without being sure the repairs would do what they were supposed to and MAKE THE WATCH RUN CORRECTLY), so the pendant becomes a strictly decorative family heirloom, and will be stored in a box with some other items I have from my grandmother.

I guess that my new eBay & Etsy search term is now going to be "pocket watch". I really liked having a watch pendant, and need to find a replacement.

You might want to check in with Rosie's Rhinestones. They are known to have pocket watch pendants now and then.

Oh fantastic! Erm, silver, and I prefer wind-up, but would be okay with battery too. My current (broken! sob!) one is about the size of a quarter, and a bit under 1/2" thick. A bit larger than that would be fine.

I feel your pain.
For my 21st birthday, I received a gold pocket watch circa 1870.
I recently took it in for repairs and it's looking more like $400 for mine. The repairman said that in more cases than not, the repairs exceed the cost. However, the sentiment is worth it. Now all I have to do is find the $400

Before you give up completely, may I suggest taking the watch to Tiempo (http://www.tiempowatch.com/)? The owner, Jody, is fabulous with watches, and she's the only one that I will take my antique watch to now.

I recommend you have a look at Tiempo - it's a locally owned watch/clock shop on Capitol Hill and they all sorts of different kinds of time pieces there...
