I *finally* got to see the movie of Sweeney Todd today, as part of [livejournal.com profile] staxxy and [livejournal.com profile] djeternaldarkness'birthday celebrations. My goodness, that was a pretty movie. And a big ol' love letter to classic Hammer Horror movies. Predictably, I want every single outfit Helena Bonahm Carter wore. Yesyes, I know I already have the boots and the stockings, and some skirts that are very similar. I want the rest of them.

I thought the singing was good; Johnny Depp sounded a lot like pre-Ziggy Stardust Bowie, and while Helena Bonahm Carter's voice was thin, it didn't detract from the movie for me.

While I knew the ending, I still cherished a faint secret hope that Sweeney and Mrs. Lovett would end up in that little cottage by the sea. What can I say? I have a soft spot in my heart for zany murderous couples. (Yes, I was a big Spike & Dru fan.) Johanna and Anthony were somewhat insipid, but really, aren't they supposed to be?

Anyway, I enjoyed Sweeney Todd tremendously. I may have to find time to go see it again.

I rarely go see a movie twice in the theatres nowadays, but I think I'm going to try for this one.

I just saw this the other day as well, and totally agree - very fine film, and I seriously want those dresses. Especially the really modest swim suit. :)

I have the soundtrack on my ipod, so's I can learn the words in order to sing the songs.

Proceed to laugh uproariously at my dorkiness.
