Can anyone explain to me why I'm suddenly fascinated with this jacket? (Clicky link goes to an eBay auction.). I mean, it's cute, yes. But it's a red/black/wine plaid, for goodness' sake! Why am I looking at it going "Ooooh, neat!"? This makes no sense.
EDITED TO ADD: Ah-ha! My favorite Lip Service re-seller has it. Which means I can wait until after the holiday, and also wait to see if the mere thought of this jacket makes
stroppy_baggage's head explode. He has Views-with-a-capital-V about plaid.
But yes, I do think it's a darling jacket. I waaaaaants it.

it's a fabulous jacket though.

the response explained -
there are "white" lines through the plaid that are actually pink. It is a plum/fushia with black plaid that will look grand with both black, and pink, but be a nice offset of both of them. So... yeah, it would coordinate nicely with everything you wear.
On top of this, it has that "plaid = cute" thing that we get with the EGL+ school girl mix.
so it makes perfect sense that your brain is going "oo thats cute!"
see, it *is* cute. And it goes with everything you wear. AND it will look adorable on you. especially with a wee bit of black lace on it.

1) It's gorgeous.
2) If anything could be described as "gothic plaid," this is it.
3) If you wear it with a black blouse and skirt, the red & wine colors will only be slightly more colorful than your normal "touch of color" ensembles.
4) It would look *fantastic* on you.
See,

This is going to sound pretty bad to those who have no idea what I'm talking about, eh? *laugh*
But back to the topic - I think most anyone can get away with a duster if they can get their hands on the proper size (which is, unfortunately, harder for most than it should be).

I will admit that the plaid isn't doing anything for me, but if that were in a solid color in my size, I'd snap it up in a heartbeat.

Um, bec. you're turning into me? Srsly, I've always had a plaid thing & that color is splashed all over my wardrobe like a bad horror film. Don't make me go buy things I have no money for & am trying to be all eco-sustainable 'n crap about!

1) It's Plaid.
2) It's fucking Plaid!!! It may look decorative, but put it on and you'll look like furniture.
3) They couldn't even be bothered to match the plaid on the side-panels. They're vertical while most of the design is diagonal.
4) I strongly suspect that it's not designed with a bosom in mind.
I think it has some nice lines - the shaping of the side panels along the front and the cuffs - but these are design elements that a seamstress could add to a jacket that would actually fit you and doesn't come in a pattern that will make your husband want to ensure it mysteriously vanishes in the wash.
Yeah, not a fan.

(Tho' "It may look decorative, but put it on and you'll look like furniture." is funny.)
It does come in solid black ...

I'm much larger than Jilli and I have a sometimes unfortunate love of flannel (worn mostly at home these days)and the fact is that most patterns are unflattering to anyone but the really thin and flat.

Now, to add my two cents on what plaid says to me.
-Plaid speaks, Autumn, warmth, office GQ, professional looking. The warmth and Autumn feel probably is derived from the 'School girl' motif.
-The cut of the jacket is very organic, has alot of curves to it along with which offsets the harsh, square lines of the plaid so the contrast is almost pleasing
-That jacket with a nice long wool skirt and a petty coat creates a nice modern Victorian era Winter walking outfit, add a muff (men, get your mind out of the gutter) and hat, perhaps a shawl
-it is very cute and has many possibilities
Now on to the other side of the coin...
-I have a petite yet curvey figure...I have problems with Lip Service clothing. They are made, sadly for the waify thin goth
-notice the cut on this piece ( more plaid cuteness (http://www.redemptionklothing.com/images/LipCat/Tarts/46-463A.jpg) )is created in that manner to flatter the chest area so it gives off the appearance of a bust for those less fortunate in that area, again..the waify thin goth
I really need to stop looking at that site...too...much...cute victorian/Deco Noir plaid goodness...

Granted, i think he's a bit off for not liking plaid, but i'm willing to grant that either he has a perfectly good reason for that preference, or that he's entitled to have the wrong opinion sometimes :P
