• Have I mentioned recently how much I LOATHE writing work-type reviews? Especially ones where you need to use all the current and hip HR buzzwords? Yes, I know, there are probably very few people who like writing work reviews, but still. And to add insult to injury, there are a flock of new, Must Be Used, "self-evaluation" tools to help me review and reflect on how my skills mesh with the company's core competencies. Ugh.

  • My office-mate, who is both awesome and evil, gave me a box of Thin Mint cookies. I have not yet succumbed to their lure, but writing about core compentencies and my Passion For Quality might drive me to it.

  • Remember that b&w striped skirt I attempted to overdye pink, and how Jacquard dye failed me? Three bottles of "rose pink" RIT dye later, the skirt is now a lovely shade of cupcake pink, with black stripes. That'll teach me to turn my pale little nose up at RIT, won't it?

  • I now have a serger! My mentor at work had one that she used twice, and doesn't want anymore. Mind you, she hasn't found the manual for it yet, and Googling "Janome MyLock 204d" doesn't turn up any instructions for use, but hey! I now have a serger!

  • I really do want to go look at the Barbie pink eyeshadow from MAC (see previous post), because it looks like it is a darker pink than all the other pink eyeshadows I have. (My collection of pink eyeshadow goes from barely pink, to various permutations of cotton candy or cupcake pink, straight on to SHOCKING NEON pink. So obviously I need a color between cotton candy/cupcake and NEON, right? Of course I do! Why are you looking at me like I'm a crazy person?)

hmm. I have a Janome/Newhome Mylock 634D and I like it a lot. Both my primary and backup sewing machines are Janome as well. I really like the brand for durability and performance. Try contacting janome here at http://www.janome.com/contact_machines.php?from=reg and asking for a new instruction brocure for your 204D Looking at it on the website, looks like a nifty machine. :)

Good luck!

Reviews suck your soul. :< Good luck. I haven't yet used the "toolized" version of the review stuff...my manager and I did a paper version during the period of suckitude that just passed.

Mmm, thin mints. I have some coming from the niece, but I don't know when. A dilemma!

Also! I have some stuff I need to dye black (public laundry/sharpie incident) but I've never dyed fabric before. Do you have advice you're willing to impart?

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

What's the fiber content of the stuff, and how big of items are they? Because the best way is to do stovetop dyeing in a big ol' canning pot, but that doesn't work well for giant skirts.

When dyeing stuff black (especially with RIT), use 3-4 times the amount of dye you think you'll need. Adding forest green dye in with the black will help counteract the way that RIT turns red-ish purple.

Um, what else, what else? Take a look at the Dye It Black FAQ: http://www.elric.com/goth/faqs/dye_faq.html

O.M.G.
So the mention of Thin Mints reminded me that i have a lovely bar of absinth chocolate waiting patiently in this here drawer next to me. Wowie-zowie. I just let one square of it melt in my mouth, and now the vague craving for somethingorothermaybesweet that i've had for hours is totally fixed. My goodness.

Oh, I'm so glad you like it! I need to go back to that grocery store and stock up, Just In Case.

Heh. I never lost my love for RIT, as long as the aim wasn't to go to true black. I've been steadily dyeing things for weeks now, all with RIT.

I've never really felt the need for a serger. The only time I really needed one -- the suffragette outfit -- I used what haute couture uses: French seams. A coverstitch machine for stretch fabrics or a machine that can handle leather would be nice, though.

I love reading your posts and imagining you actually saying this stuff in person, it makes me smile every time :D

Hee!

One of my Imaginary Internet Friends, upon meeting me for the first time, said something like "Oh my god, you talk just like your LJ posts!"

(Oh, and the pattern turned up in my email last night. Thank you very much, sweetie!)

Good luck with it! Let me know if you need any help :)
