Goth is the hip & edgy fashion thing this autumn. What makes me say this? Chanel has brought out a limited edition black nail polish (rah-rah clicky link!)

I'm very slightly tempted to buy a bottle, because the idea of black nail polish from Chanel is *funny*. Don't try to deny it. I just don't know if it's funny enough to spend that sort of money when I'm fully stocked up on OPI's black polish.

But I guess it IS time to check the other high-end makeup lines, and see what items they're marketing directly to me ElderGoths with steady jobs. I am in the market for a new favorite lipstick ...

"Limited edition"? rolls eyes forever

I'll stick with OPI, thanks. Though I do need to go get some Vamp.

I haven't seen any clothing marketed toward today's ElderGoth yet. Too early in the season, or are they just stuck in the throes of Awful 80s Fashion? (Seriously, Target just about made me cry.)

I think there's more of a goth vibe to the UK fall fashion than the US, drat it all. But I've been seeing some nice jackets & Victorian-esque blouses from places like Newport News and whatnot.

I am still sulking over our not having an H+M here.

My complaint about the 80s fashion flashback thing is that no one is bringing back the things *I* want. I don't want tunics and leggings. I want fitted dresses with full skirts, dammit!

From: [identity profile] orthoepy.livejournal.com

I take it you saw all the faux-Victorian boots at Newport, too? I saw them and thought of you ...

From: [identity profile] e-juliana.livejournal.com

Come here! I will take you shopping at our big H&M! Then we can go up to Seattle and go dancing!

It's too cunning of a plan to fail!

From: [identity profile] zmayhem.livejournal.com

Yes yes yes! Not to mention that H&M is just a block from Sephora, and a very short bus ride from Dark Garden and Absinthe. juliana's plan is UTTERLY CUNNING. Do not even attempt to resist its lure.

And in vaguely-related news, it should be noted that the Ren Faire opens in two weeks. Which is quite not your thing, I'm sure, but it does have the hat vendor with a large supply of wee cunning little top hats in a variety of colors with either matching or contrasting feather trim, for somewhere around $20-25 apiece. If you want one (or several), let me know -- even if I can't make it out there myself, Arrangements can be Made.

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

Ooooh, the mini top hats! That's right!

I actually knew that the Ren Faire opened in a few weeks, because my darling [livejournal.com profile] collapseylamb is going to be a Puritan at it, and has been burbling about accumulating the clothing she needs for it.

(I very badly want to go out for tea and nibbly food with you, juliana, and [livejournal.com profile] collapseylamb. You and j. would get along famously w/ c.)

Teleporter. Need teleporter NOW. Time to offer bribes to the Devilbunny ...

From: [identity profile] zmayhem.livejournal.com

Can I offer anything in the way of bribery to the Devilbunny? Don't forget that if you manage to make it down here, you'll have your choice of places to stay and nummy treats, so you'd really only need to worry about transportation.

A PURITAN? No. fucking. way. Get out of town! If collapseylamb is reading this: The guildmaster's wife was matron of honor at my wedding, and I'd be teaching the language class and rehearsing for Puritans right now if I weren't on bed rest. If it's not too much trouble, could you please, please be sure to tell the guildmaster that I may not be looking at him or speaking to him or even showing up this year, but the love is there.

Also, what size and height are you? I'm 5'5", roughly a size 8, and have many many costume pieces currently in storage because of the rassenfrassen bedrest, to which you are welcome. Ping me here or via the Puritans email group.

From: [identity profile] water-of-fire.livejournal.com

Hi there! =D I will certainly convey your greetings and affection to my guildmaster. I am roughly a size 8 and 5'7", so I'd LOVE to talk with you about costuming.

I'm off to Burning Man tomorrow (I don't know if I should shriek or cower), so is it okay if I get in touch when I get back in a week and a half? It's short notice for opening of Faire, but hey.

Small, small, small world. :)

While I LOVE LOVE LOVE the color of Chanel's Vamp, I find their lipsticks to be too heavy and waxy for me. They make my lips feel heavy.

I have, however, discovered that Bourgeois makes a really, really, really similar color that feels far better on my lips and is available at Sephora for half the price.

For black fingernail polish, I don't wear it much anymore, but when I do I use Wet and Wild. It lasts just as long as the more expensive stuff. Although I do like OPI's white nail polish.

From: [identity profile] jola.livejournal.com

it seems that every time fall comes around people rediscover "goth" ... which is nice i suppose, since you get a crack at some lovely high-end stuff. but it is rather tiresome. I mean, goth for fall ...again. *sigh*

I want to see the Egyptian-inspired looks coming back.

From: [identity profile] water-of-fire.livejournal.com

It was only a matter of time until Chanel whipped the black polish out -- didn't they do this as a LE thing a few years ago? My favorite black polish is actually a hematite shade from OPI. I think it's called "Black Satin," and I don't know how I'm going to pull off wearing it to the office.

I have no problem with goth being in for fall -- all it means is that when I hit H&M next month I'll drop a paycheck. Newport News has some corporate gothtastic things right now -- a few days ago I ordered two soft, drapey jersey tops and a scrunchy black velvet shoulder bag. But I want everything everywhere. I want everything Art of Adornment has right now. I want the rosary watch fob!

*sweat*

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

As I said to someone else up-thread, I am STILL sulking about there being no H&M near Seattle.

From: [identity profile] e-juliana.livejournal.com

I JUST invited prncsmoonbeam to come shop at the big H&M on Post. We could have An Expedition!

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

Psst!

Scroll up in the comments here, and read the second one from [livejournal.com profile] zmayhem. She's another of those wacky Faire people, and wants to talk to you about Puritan stuffs. :)

I think, in the case of some cosmetics companies, it's a return to a mod look, so lots of black, white, and false eyelashes for days. Tarte does have this little palette (http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P152815) that I like a lot.

From: [identity profile] euterpe35.livejournal.com

the day I pay 40 bucks for a .5 oz bottle of varnish is the day I pay for it using someone else's money.

:)

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

Good point. Especially since I think the standard Chanel counter price for the varnish is, oh, something like $18.

From: [identity profile] sistawendy.livejournal.com

Wait a minute. Wasn't goth hip & edgy last autumn? I think they're slipping.

From: [identity profile] oracle2c.livejournal.com

40.00 freaking dollars *ack* No Way!

OPI for me.

From: [identity profile] webcowgirl.livejournal.com

Of course, I'm not actually Goth, I just wear a lot of black. Really. A lot.

Eldergoths with steady jobs! I love it!

Me, I like to blow my dough on custom latex and couture Victorian dresses (red silk shantung, YOW!).

From: [identity profile] martygreene.livejournal.com

I saw in a magazine a black nail polish with red glitter in it- small particulate glitter, not the chunky kind. It was amazing, yet priced in the most outlandish manner.

I hear NYX might havea similar color, and am looking into it.

Yes, Chanel making black nail polish is greatly amusing to me.

From: [identity profile] water-of-fire.livejournal.com

I think the black polish with red glitter of which you speak is Rescue Beauty Lounge's "Revamped," and I want a bottle. :)

From: [identity profile] water-of-fire.livejournal.com

"Revamp." And it's $18. How, exactly, am I going to wear this to the office?

From: [identity profile] e-juliana.livejournal.com

I work for the Big Wagon Bank and wear black nail polish all the time, so it can be done.

From: [identity profile] water-of-fire.livejournal.com

I gather from your comment about asking Miz Manners to come shop at the H&M on Post that you work for the Big Wagon Bank in San Francisco -- it's entirely possible that I work a block up from you at The Other Really Big Bank Of The Country.

From: [identity profile] e-juliana.livejournal.com

Yep - I'm in SF. 8+ months now, and loving it.

It is entirely possible that we work very close to each other, though I'm not actually in the building with the Big Wagon. I'm half a block away from the wee H&M, though.

From: [identity profile] water-of-fire.livejournal.com

There's a comma missing from this comment and it's bothering me: it's entirely possible that I work a block up from you, at The Other Really Big Bank Of The Country. :)

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

I just had this vision of you and [livejournal.com profile] collapseylamb meeting up for lunch or coffee, and it made me 1) smile hugely, and 2) again bewail my lack of a teleporter.

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

::looks down at black-painted nails::

Okay, I'll admit I'm not the best posterchild for Corporate Goth, but I don't see why it can't be done.

"Revamp", huh? I'm going to have to look for it.

From: [identity profile] shellyinseattle.livejournal.com

Though slightly off-topic, it would be interesting to see if Chanel with it's premium price is one of the nail polish makers who has removed DBP. Certainly, it's something for people to consider when buying polish. Link: http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/06199/706529-314.stm.

From: [identity profile] shoindiematrix.livejournal.com

Wow. That's interesting and slightly exciting. It still bothers me that men seem to lack anything besides the ugly tshirt and jeans, or those cheap 80s polo and button ups. *grumbles*
I may very well need some of that DIY advice. Maybe even advice on places that stock the basics.

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

Well, my first tip isn't a DIY one, but a place to look for basics: western wear sites. It turns out that "western wedding clothing" translates to quasi-Victorian. Take a look at places like this one: http://www.wwmerc.com/cgi-bin/Category.cgi?category=20140&type=store

From: [identity profile] shoindiematrix.livejournal.com

*nods* I've actually bought from there many times. Unfortunately, their pants seem to be a bit too highly patterned and high waisted for my tastes. I'm just really looking for some plain flat-front pants.
I'm sorry if I sort of burst any bubbles, or anything.

I almost posted last weekend about my surprise that Goth was in *again* this year, after leafing through Vogue at the checkout. (Hey, it had someone in a Marie Antoinette costume on the cover. Never found the story, though.) I was surprised to see a lot of Siouxie makeup on models wearing some fairly spiffy Goth attire.

In February I think I posted (either in my LJ or the fashionablegoth LJ) about the nifty stuff at the boutiques and outlet malls on my Portland trip.
