What I should be doing right now (and should have been doing over the course of the evening) is very carefully removing the starting-to-shatter silk off of a parasol, and then using that to draft the pattern to make the new cover and lining.

I can't work up the motivation to do it right now.

I also should be working on a new GCS column. Again, the motivation, it has fled.

Part of the reason I'm loath to work on the parasol is because this is an especially nice one, and the only reason I'm attempting to re-cover it is because the black silk of the outer canopy is starting to shatter. But what if I muck it up? Yes, I've re-covered parasols before, and they've turned out just fine, but but but ...

Is that the parasol I'm thinking of? The one certain one I'm thinking of? That I still need to choose fabric for? Would cotton work? If so, I'm ordering some cotton tomorrow from hancocks-paducah, and if there's enough leftover after I cut two shirts for tom, maybe I'll send the rest out your way? Tell me how much you need and what sort of fabric is suitable?

Actually, it's a different parasol, because I haven't been able to find good fabric for yours. However, if you are getting a fabric order and it's fabric you'd like on a parasol, that would be great!

I would need about 2 yards, and cotton, poly-cotton, or silk are the types of fabrics I usually use to make parasol canopies.

::smooch:: I hope you (and your brother!) are doing well! I miss you!

Oh, how I get this! For my brother and SIL's first anniversary I made them a wall crazy quilt using the fabrics used to make SIL's dress and the bridesmaids' and flower girl's dresses. They've now been married for almost six years. Is it finished? Well, no. I'm terrified of it. I've gotten almost done. I just need to do the embroidery on it. But, I'm so terrified of messing it up at this point (when I would have ruined several hundred dollars worth of REALLY NICE fabric and lace and the embroidered butterflies that her grandmother made (grandmother is no longer alive) that it's still not done.

I need to make it a top priority, though, because they're trying to get pregnant. And, I'd really like to make a quilt for the crib. But, I have a funny feeling that SIL will be like, "Val, are you sure you'll be able to get it done on time?" Which, ok, fair. But, yeah, scared of mucking it up.

Aw, that sucks. Fear ought not to affect us as it does, but alot of life seems to be that way. Everyone knows that motivation is required for truly good work, as well as inspiration.

I do hope the parasol works out. I'm easily scared by something like that. I mean, I will freak out over the littlest chance for failure, and they're no way around it. Best to just try and relax, and at the very least, make the pattern. ^_^ No harm can come of that.

At least you can recover yours

I am hopeless at recovering, and I need to help the parasol's I have, because I am reacting even more to the sun nowadays.
I wish I could sew and figure out how to repair the ones I have....
I just got a new pink and black one...perhaps there could be a trade.....

What's this 'should' nonsense? Clearly you needed an evening to lie around being unproductive so that you could be better rested and prepared for... somthing else.

Question - I'm in the process of making 3 fabric chokers for myself out of grosgrain (hook & eye closure). Whilst searching for said grosgrain at Britex, I found some amazingly pretty black & pink ribbon. Therefore:

1) Would you like a choker made out of said ribbon?

2) If so, please to be sending measurements.

3) Also if so, do you want pink w/black accents or black w/pink accents? Or both?

I also found stripey ribbon, but sadly only purple & black. No red & black or pink & black.

Ooooh, yes I would like a choker! I'll send you measurements later tonight, when I get home.
