The work trip went really well. My coworkers and I got TONS of customer feedback on our features, and I am going to write a documentation plan of "1) Quick fixes, 2) fixes for the over the next year, and 3) how that work will let us recreate the documentation into something that's actually useful to our customers". Why yes, I am inching closer to a job title of Content Architect.
An amusing thing from this trip: the customers who are the main points of contact for my company LOVE me. They love my work, they love my personality, and in general think I kick ass. I kinda-sorta knew this, but having a 6'8" officer in tactical gear enthusiastically greet me with "Fuck yes, Jillian!" wasn't something I was expecting. We were taken to dinner on Wed. night to a teppanyaki place; after the first giant gout of flame from the tableside grill that made my pupils dilate, one of the project managers pointed at me with a grin and said, "That is why you don't piss off Jillian". Yes, my legend grows.
The only downside to the trip was that it was exhausting (of course), and when I returned to work on Friday I had 8 hours to write and publish the release notes. (I knew that was going to happen, but that didn't make it any easier.)
Finally, in case anyone was wondering what I wear when I am sent to talk to customers at gov't agencies:
