We finished watching s2 of The Boys the other night. I'm still kinda 'eh' on it; it does some interesting things with the idea of "what if superheroes existed in modern society", but nothing stand-out. Also I kinda hate Carl Urban's character and get distracted by his accent veering off into Jack Sparrow territory. The Stroppy One said the show has taken the concept and the character names from the comic, but is doing wildly different things with it. For which I'm glad, because I have a very low tolerance for Garth Ennis' particular brand of edgelord storytelling.

But thanks to watching it, I now know for sure that I can identify if a show is filmed in Toronto despite never having been there, because that faux-rustic cabin has been used as a location in Polar, The Umbrella Academy, and Hannibal

Vampires vs. The Bronx is ADORABLE. It's similar to Attack the Block - lower-class community deals with outside threat - but with the premise that vampires are the ultimate version of gentrification, which is such a clear idea that I'm surprised no one else has touched on it. Plus the movie is FULL of references to other vampire media, which made me grin every time.

We've only watched two episodes of The Haunting of Bly Manor so far, but I am enthralled. It is Very Gothic, in the original literary definition, and anything with a fancy manor house, weird kids, and creepy dolls is 100% my thing.

(I admitted to the Stroppy One that if I had my way with whatever house we next end up in, I would have a room full of vintage porcelain dolls, because I find them delightfully creepy. But that I would never do that, because I know it would freak him right the fuck out. He looked at me a bit bug-eyed and said, "Yeah. Please don't do that. I'm not okay with that idea".)
