Last night's big ol' gothy masquerade event was fun. It was nice seeing people out & dressed up elaborately - so dressed up that I almost felt like a slacker. grin

shallow fashion details

Miss Lucinda the fit manniquin was amazingly useful - I managed to alter my enormous red velvet dress (worn only once previously, and it was still too big then) by taking in the waist & bust a total of about 12 inches. That, and a top hat w/ a 12" Venise lace veil all the way around it solved my "costume" dillema.

  • red hoop skirt

  • black swoopy enormous skirt o' doom

  • red velvet dress (which has a gigantic skirt all on its own - w/ the hoop & underskirt, I could have probably knocked down adults, nevermind small children). The dress is princess seamed, buttons all the way down the front w/ black glass buttons, and has red & black brocade cuffs

  • white face, neck, & chest

  • white, red, and black eye makeup, with red, black, and clear rhinestones affixed all around my eyes and above my eyebrows.

  • red red RED! lipstick
  • and then the top hat w/ a huge red & black tulle veil on the back and a point lace veil going all the way around the brim; each point had a red crystal hanging from it.

For a last-minute scramble, it turned out well. There were swarms of people in beautiful costumes, the music was good, and it wasn't TOO smokey where I was. But I still felt ... eh, I dunno. Kinda out of sync w/ the whole evening.

I have other things to burble about, but I'll do that later. I wanted to post the Shallow Fashion Details for Queen of the Monkeys. :-)
