Just once, it would be nice if the staircase was where it had been the night before. If I had known the whole upstairs portion of the house liked to change its floor plan at random, I obviously wouldn't have decided to put the computer upstairs.

Of course, the staircase moving during the night is nothing compared to it slithering away while I'm upstairs sitting at the computer; I guess I'll be up here for a while. I don't suppose any of you have any advice on how to placate a temperamental staircase? Yes, I've tried cookies and milk, AND a new area rug. It didn't like any of those.

Because we can pretend that the world makes sense the other 364 days of the year.

Aside from telling the staircase to stop reading Harry Potter, I don't have any other suggestions.

Did you see my reply to the other message? Stairs like to trip people, so you should be able to make them hold still by positioning people who can't clim stairs easily at both ends.

I seem to be too subtle for some people today. Will wonders never cease?

Decorative dust corners? (http://houseofantiquehardware.com/s.nl;jsessionid=ac112b1b1f438e76f665387b49f087c9af0868c91592.e3eTaxmKbNaNe34Oah8TbhmMaNf0n6jAmljGr5XDqQLvpAe?sc=13&category=139&it=A&id=1584) A new newel post, maybe carved in the shape of a dragon? Lavender-infused beeswax wood polish?

That's because your stairwell...doesn't BELONG IN THIS DIMENSION! For that matter, most of the upstairs follows some weird, Lovecraftian logic, rather than right angles and the laws set up by Euclid.

Clearly your stairs long to be in the Goblin Market; do them a favour and relocate them to Sang Sacre, you know they'll never be happy elsewise, and an unhappy staircase is a misery to behold.

Barring that, I have three words for you: bung a low.
