Today on Tiny Toon Adventures involves lurching around the house, with occasional pauses to try and remember what the heck I was about to go work on. This is because I didn't fall asleep until some time after 5:30AM. [livejournal.com profile] stroppy_baggage thankfully let me sleep until almost noon, but my eyes have that hot itchy lack of sleep feeling, my skin feels too tight, and my attention span ... isn't.

What I *really* need to do today is find things that will work as samples of my editing work to take to the informational interview tomorrow*. This is a bit problematic, because I don't usually keep copies of the things I edit when I'm on a contract gig (and I'm not really sure if I'm actually allowed to). I just spent a bit of time poking around A Certain Website for the various things I worked on all last year, and was very annoyed to discover that the site automatically re-directs me to the Mac versions of everything. Which would be okay, except that the Mac versions have extremely stripped-down help files, and none of them are the files I worked on. Vexing, says I. Next plan is to look at the business plan I edited in '04 for a start-up, see how much of the confidential stuff I can strip out, and use *that* as a sample.

In between trying to find editing samples today, I'm going to drink a lot of decaf blueberry tea (antioxidants to try and rid my system of sleep-dep toxins), and work on modifying a certain pattern I have to create a waist-length princess-seamed bodice template. I have these vague plans, you see, of eventually making dresses that have princess-seamed bodices and knee-length circle skirts. But I need to work on my princess-seam skills.

*This is the first time I have *ever* been asked to bring samples of my editing work to any interview, informational or otherwise. Is this a standard thing that I've just managed to dodge over the years?

That was Her Nibs yesterday, due to our kid's squirreliness. (I fared a little better thanks to ear plugs.)

I couldn't sleep either last night. Just ask [livejournal.com profile] wakko who kept me company via instant messenger through my bout of insomnia. Hopefully we both fare better tonight. I'm going the lavender bath route, you?

Since I must must MUST be awake and coherent tomorrow, I'm probably going to resort to half an Ambien. Along with a bath using [livejournal.com profile] staxxy's Goodnight Kiss bath salts.

Yeah, I'm often tempted to take a partial dose of my Klonopin, or (heavens forbid) take a Trazedone. So far I've found that a bath with Lush's French Kiss bubble bar and then a generous application of their Schnuggle body butter, and I start drifting off. I do detest going to sleep with wet hair though.

what's the problem with princess seams? Just they're something I'm good at doing so might be able to advise on method

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

My problems are that I haven't done a lot of things with princess seams; I'm (for all my altering thrift store finds skills) not a very *practiced* seamstress (I haven't made a lot of garments from scratch); and I'm the awkward combination of very busty AND short-waisted.

However, I have become fed-up enough with the seeming simplicity of princess seams to buckle down and try my hand at them again, and THIS time, I'm going to make lots and lots of muslins. I don't want to, because I am impatient, but I know that's the only way I'm going to improve my skills.

I wasn't able to fall asleep until late and then kept waking up every hour on the hour. FUUUUUNNNN!! 4 or so hours and a 16 hour work day makes for a very tired Anne. Today I could really use a caffeine iv drip.

Keep us updated on your princess seam progress. I may be trying that soon myself.

Good luck with the informational interview. *Sends Good Job Getting Mojo*

Sorry for the off-topic (I hate using LJ as email) but I don't have your email address at hand and I desperately need information on that perfect chocolate absolute. It's urgent, please forgive me. Thank you for your assistance and indulgence. Deleting this comment would make sense to me. Nothing to see here, no, no secret information on perfect chocolate anything...

I am of the opinion that perfecting the pattern and technique for short-waisted hourglass dresses with princess seams and circle skirts is an excellent use of your time. If i were a wealthy eccentric, i'd try to hire you to design all the clothes for me and my household staff. As it is, at least now i can hope that if you get these dresses figured out, maybe i can modify the pattern for a longer hemline and smaller top.

Sleep is also a good use of times, but... dresses.

Yup, it's just the first time you ran into a normal editor-hirer-person. I always required editing samples or at least that the interviewer take an editing test.

Freaky. I've had to take an editing test exactly once, and no one has ever asked me for samples.
