Yes, a new lesson is up at Gothic Charm School!

(As always, huge HUGE thanks to [livejournal.com profile] leenerella for technical support!)

there are broken links, and an extra use of the word "more".

other than that, excellent advice as always.

I couldn't get them to work, so I just removed the links. Where is the extra "more"? I'm not seeing it.

From: [identity profile] wire-mother.livejournal.com

i feel embarrassed about that now, as i can't find it, and wonder if i perhaps hallucinated it....

however, in a desperate attempt to recover some of my poise i'd add that, though it is not necessary, you might consider changing "while searching desperately for the next thing to slavishly conform to" to "while searching desperately for the next thing to which to slavishly conform" or "...to conform slavishly" (though the latter is very far from necessary, as split infinitives are allowable in English - even the former is debatable, as dangling participles are still a matter of much discussion).

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

I actually tried both those versions when I was writing, and decided that the "while searching desperately for the next thing to slavishly conform to" sounded best with my writing style.

I *think* I managed to fix the links. If they're still wonky, I'm sure someone will let me know.

The Tourist Season in GothyLand and Subculture Cross-overs links are broken.

Tourist Season in GothyLand (”http://gothic-charm-school.com/charm/?p=70#more-70”)

Subculture Cross-overs (”http://gothic-charm-school.com/charm/?p=8#more-8”)

Looks like you need to take out oout the space before http in your link and add one after your second quote in the href because that's all I did to the once above.

On second thought, they may be cursed.

Your quotes that were in the original html were left-hand right-hand (in the wrong spots of course) quotes that, although looking fine in my browser, seems to confuse LJ and it puts more quotes in there. Once I deleted them and retyped them, it worked.

Nice. The glass bleeding bowl sounds supiciously like problems I've had with people in various magickal communities who have super-sacred-items-that-nobody-but-the-owner-may-touch and freak out when other people touch them or even look at them funny. It's cool if they have these athame and ritual items and all, but if something absolutly must not be touched by other hands, don't leave it laying on the coffee table or even on a shelf in your bedroom! If it is that important, then put it away in a cubbard someplace or better yet, spend the money on a nice box with a lock. It really bugs me when you get invited over to a person's house and say "that's a nice looking doohickie" while reaching for something easily within reach of your seat on the couch to have the host freak out and go on and on about how you almost destroyed years of work. They should at least put a sign like in the museums that says "Do Not Touch!".

I'll refrain from snarky comments about the hosts' possible ulterior motives and/or lack of respect for said sacred items. Some people (like me) are also absent-minded and forget to put things away properly.

Instead, it occurred to me that some people (like me, presumably you) are moved to handle things and look at them more closely, while others don't feel the same need to touch. (I often find myself with my arms crossed behind my back in labs, museums, expensive stores, and other hands-off places, so I won't reach for things without thinking.) I suspect that people who don't relate to the world by touching things don't realize others may want to pick up their stuff when they see it.

In any case, it might be a good idea to ask permission before handling doohickies at people's homes until you have a sense for whether or not they leave booby traps for guests. They may still give the "nobody can touch my athame" speech, but at least you have the Moral High Ground. Or they may say "I just got this at Faire, here, take a look at the engraving on the blade," and hand it to you, if they're just leaving cool non-sacred items lying around. I haven't had any trouble as a guest--but I've had roommates who leave things in my way that they don't want me to touch or move. (And I've had stupid roommates who damage things I didn't realize couldn't be left in the common areas, such as a coffeepot. Actually, the same roommate did both those things.)

Excellent lesson! I like that there were several topics addressed. You are always so gracious in your answers.

It was wonderful finally getting to really meet you, as opposed to my prior gazing across the room going "oooh... she's purty" and being a shy doodyhead and not introducing myself. Then middle america and the internet got in the way and you know the rest.

I do have one question... where might I find the wonderful photos of the glorious Princess TickyBox? I would like to see the rest of them, and cannot for the life of me recall the lj username!

It was lovely to finally meet you, too! (Now remind me again of your website, because I can't find it!)

Princess Tickybox photos can be found here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mohmlet/ , and her mother's lj username is [livejournal.com profile] minim_calibre

Wonderful, as usual.

Hey - can I pick up my bike sometime this weekend? I'm still battling illness, and I don't want to overexert myself until I'm completely better. Thanks!

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

No problem. We don't know when we'll be in this weekend, so I'll give you a call in the next day or two.
