It is the tradition in our household that what you do on January 1st sets the tone for the coming year.

Last year, if I remember correctly, I got a small amount of writing done, but mostly flopped around the house feeling tired and unwell.

Today was spent visiting friends, exchanging presents, eating nummy food (and cupcakes!), and getting a fair amount of writing done. I would be quite happy if that's the pattern that 2006 decides to follow.

I slept most of the day on a giganormous pile of soft pillows, with an occasional warm cat snuggling up. Then, a comfort movie, then some good, simple pizza.

I wouldn't mind the next year following that pattern.

Oh, GOD, I hope you're wrong. I spent New Year's Day on a train that was trapped behind (A) freight trains (B) more freight trains (C) flooded-out tracks and that wound up being towed backward from a marsh I cannot spell to Sacramento.

No, no, no, that's not an omen.

Well, it's not a matter of wrong, after all this is our household tradition, not everyones.

So, I wouldn't worry.

Hmm if that's the case I see lots of art museums and snuggling in my future.

Excellent!

I am glad that our tradition is about how you spend New Year's Eve, as far as the set up for the new year. New Years Day was less good than New Year's Eve (although, seeing you two was a really nice highlight).

New Year's Eve I spent visiting with friends, and doing fun things (not super exciting things, but fun and mellow).

New Year's Day I spent visiting with you 2 for a little while, in tears a few times, and sleeping the rest of the day.

I hope the trend of good friends, good food, and writing continues for you throughout 2006. Happy New Year!

Since we're still out of town (in Tulsa visiting the in-laws), I'm looking to next week as setting the pattern for the year to come. But yesterday was good--between gift cards and duplicate gifts to return I ended up with $100 to spend at Borders (nothing better than buying a big stack of books guilt-free because the $$ can't be spent anywhere else!), and we had tasty Italian food for dinner. I'll take those as good omens.

Hmmm... I wonder what it means that I did a bunch of stuff for the house and worked on rebuilding the carport....

Her Nibs says that's common in Ireland. Me? I worked on a new corset, loudly engaged in mad science, fought off evil microbes, and saw Brokeback Mountain.

I had a similar New Year's Day. Exchanged presents with friends, ate yummy food, watched good movies and relaxed.

Woke up late, hung out with folks and ate lots of nummy food. Oh, and had a nice nap in the middle. Other than the waking up late (did it today too) I wouldn't mind if 2006 continued that way.
