Who said it far better than I could have:

"When a big disaster hits, local charities often suffer because people are sending all of their donations to the Red Cross. Let's not forget that there are homeless and hungry people in our own states and cities who needed our help before this crisis, and who will continue to need it afterwards. If every dollar given to hurricane relief were matched with a dollar given locally, it would be a wonderful thing indeed."

I know many people locally can't afford to give more than they already have, no matter how much they might want to. I'm going to try and make a donation to local charities each month -- it may not be a lot, but it will be something, and every little bit (be it money, canned goods, or clothing donated somewhere) helps.

Her Nibs has a large bag of toiletries, but we're having trouble finding a place around here that takes in-kind donations for hurricane evacuees. The Red Cross doesn't take in-kind donations. Any ideas?
