Anyone have any ideas how difficult it would be to make spats? Because just LOOK at these! So, so pretty! Be sure to look at all the styles, because they're all just gorgeous. Sadly, there are no prices listed, and the designer is in Germany. Therefore, I need to figure out how to make my own. Because I must have ornate, elaborate spats. I must. My wardrobe is sadly, sadly lacking in them.

Oh, and because I haven't posted them for a bit AND I really like my outfit today, I bring you Shallow Fashion Details!

  • Primrose pink velvet pointy-toe kitten heels.

  • Pale pink micro-fishnets.

  • Pale pink petticoat worn over a black petticoat, both knee-length.

  • Black rayon princess-seamed sundress, which is slightly shorter than knee-length, so the pink petticoat peeks out under the black lace on the hem.

  • Black lace princess-seamed overdress/jacket. V-neck, 3/4 length sleeves with ruffles, tiny black buttons all the way up the front, and black Venice lace on the hem.

  • Black jet bead choker with a cameo locket pendant.

  • The usual top hat, the usual makeup, and my hair in two braids.

This outfit is entirely wasted on work. I should be off wandering around the zoo or going to a tea party.

ya know....I oughta learn how to make those, myself. I've got laceup granny boots, and want buttonups...no one's yet making buttonup boots that approach being affordable (I'm talking authentically styled, no zipper in the side). So, the thought arises of making spats to mimic the look and cover up the lacing...

you're the best kind of evil, you know that?

*hugs*

If you figure out how to make spats, I will grovel at your feet, and send you lots of fabrics.

I have a pattern in a Belle Epoque pattern cutting book - would you like me to photocopy and psot it to you

They look super easy to make...Im sure with minimal effort you will do it.

You're feeding my lust for colored & patterned hose. Since it's summer and I'll be showing my legs more, I better get them sooner rather than later. Darn you. Darn you to heck.

So pretty! Seeing this makes me want to have a sewing party! :D

I would imagine that it should be pretty easy to make spats. Old military spats should be available to take apart for a pattern if you can't find one.

Those spats are awesome. I love that one of them is called 'Peace for all Animals'. :P

Darling, you need a camera. I imagine your descriptions do not do you justice.

Tell me about your pettycoat collection?

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

I get weirdly self-conscious about the thought of posting photos for the Shallow Fashion Details. Plus, I'm an OldeSkoole alt.gothic.fashion -er, so I'm very used to text-based outfit descriptions.

My petticoat collection is ... well, not as large as I would like, but I don't have enough room for it as it is. I have multiple black petticoats (chiffon and tulle) in lengths ranging from knee to floor, one knee-length pink petticoat, one knee-length white petticoat, and a knee-length black & white one. Not to mention the red floor-length petticoat.

What can I say? I like fluffy skirts.

From: [identity profile] cherryheavy.livejournal.com

heheh. I like fluffy skirts, too.

I need to sit down and try a few patterns that I have, but it scares me. The last few attempts have been... painstaking and not terrifbly nice looking, if you can imagine. I'm no good at gathering, though I have a different technique now.

Maybe I'm just lazy? :P

Ooh, where'd you get your fishnets? Givenchy has stopped making pink, damn them.

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

The Hue brand has pink fishnets, but they may be phasing them out considering the ones I bought over the weekend were on the clearance table. (I really should go back and grab some more.)

Sock Dreams (http://www.sock-dreams.com) does carry pale pink fishnets by Leg Avenue, but I have no idea how the quality on Leg Avenue fishnets are.

Thanks! I've tried the Hue ones before, they're not bad. Nothing like the excellence of Givenchy, though. I guess I should start trolling Ebay ...

I've made spats. . .

And they're truly just a three-piece pattern (seam in front, seam in back, side fastening)- though the ones on that web-site have all those fun extra details.

The spats I made were to cover up [livejournal.com profile] philfoglio's black tennis shoes for his wedding (his feet are a little wide, and dress shoes seemed an uncomfortable extravagance at the time). I got a pattern from Marie (fittingrm@aol.com), that she's used to make them for Payne. So, they were men's ankle-height, but, heck, make a muslin! Be adventurous. . .

Are you up for a trade? I'll make you spats if you'll trim me a hat.

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

Of course I'd be up for that! Do you have a particular hat that needs trimming, or should I start looking for something?

From: [identity profile] jonquil.livejournal.com

I don't have a suitable hat; please do start looking. Meanwhile, E me and tell me about your perfect spat. (I assume you're goblinmarket, right?)

Re: so little time, so many things to make knock-offs of!

When I figure out how to make them, I will let you know. Pretty things will be ours ...

Hey! You're performing tomorrow night at the Vogue, right?

Spats

What a great idea! Wear my old comfy boots but dress them up with spats to match an outfit.

From: [identity profile] staxxy.livejournal.com

the outfit sounds fabulous and I have got to see these heels.

and the spats are also fabulous and I bet I could make a pattern for those. :)

spats gone bad...no, really...or perhaps it is just spat abuse?
