How easy/quick is it to make ruffles with a ruffler attachment for a sewing machine? Mind you, I have no idea if there even IS a ruffler attachment for my sewing machine. But ... I'm trying to figure out if making my own tribal-style belly dance skirts (circle skirt to a bit below the knees, then 3 or 4 gathered tiers for extra swoopy-ness) is going to be cheaper than paying $95 and up to buy them pre-made.

I want skirts like this one, but I don't need the top, hip scarf, or veil. Because I'm not wearing them for belly dance purposes. I'm wearing them because they're giant! swooshy! skirts!

Which is why I'm thinking about ruffler attachments.

Boy! Oh Boy! Does the ruffle attachment save time. I've done it both ways and I whole heartedly endorse the ruffle attachment over doing it the traditional way.

I've been dying to find skirts like that that don't cost an arm and a leg. I just want big full long swoopy circle skirts. Unfortunately, I don't sew. Maybe I can see if my hubby can do ir for me. Hmmm.

Ruffler attachment is a gift from the gods. Just set the size you want, stuff the fabric in, and the rest is done by the boxy thingy.

Yes, ruffler attachment. I need to find out if there is one for my machine. Then, giant swooshy skirts will be ours!

I woke up this morning with my mind on swooshy skirts. Ten yards. Twenty five yards. FIFTY YARDS?! Swooshissimo.

I don't know anything about sewing, but Flying Skirts (http://www.flyingskirts.com/catalog/skirts.shtml) come highly recommended. They are not, however, cheap.

I do know that my friend's mom, who's a fairly accomplished seamstress, made one tiered skirt and swore "Never again."

I'm aware that all that is less than helpful.

I like the skirts from Flying Skirts (yes, I bought one), but it isn't quite swooshy enough for me. The 25-yard hem skirts from Fat Chance Belly Dance are my ideal, and I'm starting to suspect that it will be less of a hassle to *buy* the skirts instead of struggling with making them, ruffler attachment or no.

gah. i think i want the 25-yd skirt, too. too bad that i prefer cabaret dance but tribal costuming.
