Last week I had a mammogram, probably the first one since ... 2018? Yes I know, I should have been more diligent about them.

I have won a an appointment for a diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound on both sides, just to make sure the changes to the tissue are normal ones. The appointment is mid-late October. The lady on the phone said this is a totally normal thing, I shouldn't read anything into the follow-up appointment.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA TELL THAT TO THE BRAIN RACCOONS wow let's see if I can avoid completely catastrophizing for the next month.

OH NO! I needed a biopsy a couple years back - my brain hamsters went into overdrive on their wheel until I got the 'all clear'!

Hoping you get an 'all clear' as well!

Validating both the aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa (because who DOESN'T catastrophize repeat mammograms??) and the "it's normal, though." Dexter boob is significantly denser than Sinister boob so I swear I get called in for a "lets just make sure" titty panini every other time I go.

They compare year by year so without any recent data it makes sense to do more imaging.

it is probably a perfectly normal and okay thing, and they are doing the ultrasound TO BE SURE.

I, of course, am having "6 years is a long time to wait" angst and ack. BUT given the length of time, it is perfectly normal for them to want to do a thorough exam and really document all your bits and bobs.

DO NOT PANIC!!

In the event that they do find something, it sounds very likely that you have still caught it early enough to kick it to the curb.

SCANXIETY IS REAL! That they're saying it's routine is a good sign. Every time, my doctor says, "It's routine," all has turned out well. Still, it's better to be safe and catch it early. That they didn't immediately send you to get the 3D mammogram, ultrasound, and possible biopsy is a good thing. I've found that if they are "concerned it may be..." then doctors try to jump on it as fast as possible.

Sending all the good scan vibes your way.

repeating what others have said; that it's the lack of newer images to compare to that are leading to them being thorough. of course reason doesn't really work when the brain ramps up the worry.

i have dense-ish boobs & get the 3d one because it takes more detailed images.

Um yeah, I got the callback for ultrasound and MRI, and as a result, mammo assisted targeting. It was tiny, I had a wonderful surgeon, it was actually stage 0 but it was excized and all scans have been AOK since. Early is very good. Give the raccoons some tasty kibble and send them to sleep in a hollow tree and leave you alone!

And also... If it actually WAS something really concerning and life threatening or distressing, they would have made the appointment MUCH SOONER. It being put off to mid-October tells me it is just checking the boxes and probably setting up a new baseline. Literally just a "to be safe" sort of testing.
