The first week back at work after my vacation was crazier than I expected it to be, and that's saying something. In addition to excavating my Outlook and Slack, having mid-year review discussions with my five direct reports, and kicking off the hell that is our monthly release notes, I also had:

  • Making an offer to a candidate for the senior technical writer position. She accepted, yay!
  • Working on the transfer process for the internal candidate who accepted the other technical writer position!
  • My boss suddenly having to be out for a family issue, so I needed to cover some stuff for him.
  • Ohai lack of localization process, I guess I'm one of the leads for trying to fix that.
  • Salesforce Experience Builder throwing a tantrum and giving a 404 page when anyone tried to publish anything.
  • My contractor gently telling me Thursday was going to be his last day because he got a fantastic job offer, but it hinged on him starting ASAP.
So that was fun. I also had my (very quick) mid-year call with my boss: I'm doing exactly what I need to, he's going to work on getting me a promotion for next year, and I need to work on delegation, setting boundaries, and generally saying no. Everyone who knows me well is laughing their heads off at this.

The Stroppy One gets the newsletter for the weekly farmers' market, and this week's said "It's the start of strawberry season!" I love strawberries, but only if they're local. The Madwoman offered to head to the market at opening and grab some.
"How much do you want?" she asked. "If you can carry it, half a flat" I replied.

She looked at me. "What do you want me to make?"
"Something, I dunno, but I'm mostly just planning on eating them." And then the Stroppy One explained that left to my own devices, I will eat a pint of strawberries in one sitting. A day later, I've eaten two pints, and the Madwoman has made some sort of gorgeous cake.

I left the house yesterday to hang out with [personal profile] minim_calibre, and wore the new fuchsia batwing jacket the Madwoman made for me. I received many compliments! And I spilled something on it, and am now deep into a search on how to remove grease stains from polyester. The OxyClean + dish soap paste seems to have done the trick. I think. I need to look at the jacket in bright light.

I like strawberries quite a lot...

but it's cherries I literally need a quota for(say ten or twelve a day) or I will eat until I'm sick.

I second the sentiment! A-Bing deserved far better than to be sent back to China and known to history only by a servant’s epithet.

(And in early autumn it’s fresh damson plums, the glaucous black football-shaped kind used to make prunes; they’re available in Dayton, Ohio only within a window of a couple weeks in September.)

Yeah, plums are great, too.
Here in Arizona I think we get several varieties.(Although I'm not sure about those exact ones.)

Are our jobs communicating? Because damn if that doesn't sound familiar, except with different tasks. I thought I was familiar with telling people "no", but it has ramped up to a new level recently.

Congratulations on getting the new bodies sorted and condolences on the loss of one. I'm about to start riding that horse and I'm not looking forward to it one bit, no matter how desperately I need the hands to do the work.

Ma’am, are you familiar with the Hooloovooloo from Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy—a sapient shade of blue? I ask because you look for all the world like the Anthropomorphic Incarnation of magenta.

I find that Dawn applied to a water-dampened stain is most efficacious.

Oof on the work.

Now learn to say no.

That jacket looks fantastic and it fits so perfectly. The Madwoman does fantastic work.

You look gorgeous in that!

I also get crazed for strawberries, although I am more mad for bing cherries. Both are SO nice when fresh!

It's been, what, 12 yrs since I saw your pic of Clovis and started following you on various platforms? It's only this week I've realised the Madwoman is a real actual friend and not another Creature in the Walls thing

Our first strawberry is ripe in the planter on the front wall. I keep forgetting to water them but it's looking like a good crop
