It took the Botox shots kicking in for me to realize how much pain I had been in for the past few weeks. How did I keep functioning through that? Oh right, by disassociating from my body and ignoring its signals. And drugs. I don't recommend either of these tactics, but I got things done? Yeah, still don't recommend my approach. Don't be like me, peeps!

The all-day work meeting on Thursday was actually good and useful, which was a surprise. Usually those things are full of talking heads and everyone wants to fall asleep by noon. But no, we as a group managed a lot of planning and tactics for the year, and I didn't want to growl at anyone. I count this as a win.

On Friday morning I had a coffee meeting with my new(ish) boss, who is a great guy and thinks in ways similar to me, thank G-D. After we got done comparing notes and talking about long-term plans for the writing team, he pointedly asked, "What are you doing to make sure you don't burn out? What time off are you planning?" I told him about my long weekend in May, and he said, "That's MAY. You need to start scheduling more time off or half days for yourself. The unlimited PTO is part of your compensation package, use it."

I, of course, looked at him and said um.

"You're planning on working when you get home today, aren't you. When you get home, check Slack and email, then take the rest of the day off."

So I spent yesterday afternoon sleeping, which I apparently really needed. And yes, I am going to do my damndest to rest over the weekend. Yes, I know, I need to be better about taking care of myself. I can sense several of you glaring at me from here.

I think everybody needs a boss like yours. You don't hear too many people reporting that their boss tells them to work less!
