(The return of bandom lyrics as titles. Yeah, I'm at THREAT LEVEL: BANDOM.)

Soooooo there's a whole bunch of little stressors going on (nothing health related for any of us, just to head off those worries.) Nothing dire, but a lot of them. There's also a big stress thing going on that I am not talking about yet (again, not health or relationship stuff), and ongoing days of bad sleep. Let's just say that say my ability to cope is a bit thin right now.

(My G-D, I am craving clove cigarettes right now. Not gonna happen, but i really want to take a few drags of one and feel my head go swimmy.)

The Stroppy One correctly decided that I needed people and distraction, so we went and hung out with minim, spouse, and the teenaged Tickybox last night. It was good! It was what I needed! During the course of the evening, I picked up Tickybox's bunny-squid plushy thing that was in her Easter basket, which was squishy and velvety and nice. "What IS this?" I asked. "It's a Squishmallow", said the kid. I'd heard of Squishmallow plushies, but never actually held one.

She went to her room and came back with a large bat Squishmallow, which was a Halloween limited edition. She handed it to me, I hugged it, aaaaand then my eyes started overflowing. It's a thing that happens when my general stress levels get high enough, but I was NOT expecting it to start up because I was hugging a large plushy bat. There was discussion between the Stroppy One and Tickybox - she'd never really bonded with squishy bat or even named it, so the Stroppy One offered a trade of a big plush bunny for the bat. She was enthusiastic about that,  so I now have a large squishy bat plushy named Biddle.

Crying when handed a stuffed animal to hug. That's a little weird, even for me. Ugh.

Dor picked up a squishmallow recently for when her hands hurt a lot; she finds holding something really soft and nice to be soothing and gives her some pain relief.

Frankly, I'm not surprised you reacted the way you did as it is exactly what you needed at the time the you needed it the most. I'm glad your studmuffin could make a good trade for squishybat. Everyone's stress levels have been ramped up and people have to find relief wherever they can get it. I have a body pillow I cuddle with every night when I go to bed and it helps. Ok, to a point. I can't carry it around with me to work (oh to be able to work from home. Le sigh. Tis not to be.) I've never heard of Squishmallows, but now I'm curious and I might have to do some investigation soon.

Maybe not so strange? I burst into tears at the sight of a dilapidated plush kangaroo in a therapist's office once, and she gave it to me at every subsequent session so I could take care of it.

I'm glad you have a squishybat.

Squishmallows are magic. We have several-- one is a Hello Kitty that is big enough to fill up an armchair, and I never get mad that they're cluttering up the living room. :) I'm so glad you stumbled upon them like that.
