On the one hand, having a professional designer/seamstress (the Madwoman's other skillset) living with me is great. She catches me looking at clothes sites, looks at the prices, and gently explains to me that she can make that, don't pay that much for that dress.

On the other hand, part of this is because she has a hard-core punk rock mindset and refuses to charge me for her labor. Ever. She's never let me pay her more than cost of supplies for anything she's ever made.

rent trade maybe? or does she pay rent. Also tell her I miss her please, I made potato pancakes recently thinking of her.

I do the same thing with people who are valued and dear to me. I only charge them materials, my time and experience is a gift. They repay with not charging for a shared hotel room, or a random bottle of something, or buying dinner.

If it makes you uncomfortable, give her something nice.

She wouldn't do that if she didn't want to... so sometimes we gotta let our closest friends show us love in their own way. In your special ways, you are a giver, too. <3
