Last night I not only (carefully, being mindful of my back) used the "gentle belly dance for beginners" DVD, but I went for a half hour walk!

The Madwoman came down from her attic around 9pm*, and after slamming back her first cup of coffee, said "Walkies?!" She was amused to learn what *I* meant by walkies meant strolling around the neighborhood for a bit, not hiking our way to Swanson's and back.

She was also amused by what I wore: long swooshy skirt and a stretch velvet overdress. ("Aren't you going to overheat?" "GENTLE STROLLING, JAY".)

It was nice.

And today I have created a special exercise tracking page for my organizer; every day I exercise, I give myself a shiny sticker. Look, whatever tiny validation I can use here will be helpful. (Huh, I should set a monthly reward, shouldn't I? Exercise X amount of days in a month, treat myself to a thing.)

* The Madwoman works as a baker. (She's on furlough, but is a baker.) Which means she keeps bakers' hours and tries to go to bed around 2pm. Our awake times overlap weirdly.

I meant to become more physically active this summer. I was going to start walking again. Sadly, that has not happened for a variety of reasons, so I applaud your initiative and general activity. Keep it up. :)

you definitely need a monthly treat. achievement rewards are a great way to stay motivated.

Yay Jay!

  1. Yay walkies! I hope you do them regularly from now on.
  2. The Madwoman and I have a lot in common, I see. I love longer, more athletic walks & bike rides. I don't keep bakers' hours, though; they're more like military hours.

Bribing yourself to exercise is a fine tradition. Some days the only way I can force myself to exercise is to see the happy numbers on my fitness and food trackers that lead to chocolate in my mouth.

Well, I give myself a cute animal sticker in my planner every week that I actually show up for work so I think that's fine.

I need to get back into belly dance. it has been too long and my body does feel better after it. may I ask what DVD you are using? I need to go slow as well (I have this tendency to decide to do something physical and then go to 11 and I end up hurting myself)

I should do the sticker technique. a shiny cookie that isn't a cookie (because I already have 3 uneaten lemon blueberry cupcakes in my fridge) is a good thing. and my inner tween will be delighted
