Saturday was the first day I navigated the stairs using my cane instead of clinging to the Stroppy One, and I was successful! But going down stairs with a cane is TERRIFYING. I'm sure it will become less so, but that initial time ended with taking half a Xanax.

My plan is to actually go back to the office on Wednesday. Fingers crossed.

My current clothing obsession for the past few months has been princess-seamed or "fit and flare" stretch velvet dresses. When worn over full skirts and a sleeveless high-collar blouse, they're a good shortcut to my Unnerving Vampire Governess style preference.

I already had a handful of them because the last time I had this clothing obsession, I had the Infamous BlueJay make them. But of course I want more, and have been window shopping the usual sites. This has led to a dramatic relapse into pining over the 90s era Betsey Johnson dresses in the gorgeous crushed and floral stretch velvets. I could barely fit into them then, so there is NO chance I'd be able to now. :: sigh ::

I got two stretch velvet dresses at the thrift store a few years ago and even though I never go anywhere dressy enough for them any more, I'm hanging onto them in case I ever do again.

Practice makes stairs and canes less difficult. If you have access to an indoor set of 2 to 4 steps to practice on, I found that useful when I was starting out.

fashionablecanes.com has a bunch of nicer looking canes if you find yourself starting a cane wardrobe. They also sell various accessories for ice and snow.

Yay stairs! You remind me of when I broke my foot 35 (!) years ago and had to bop around on crutches for six weeks. Stairs took some getting used to, but I learned to always lead with my good foot.

I have a couple of those stretch velvet dresses. They're among my favorite things to wear during the coldest weather.
