Hi, I've spent every day mostly horizontal and doped to the eyeballs. I'm actually really bored with this. For example, I have THREE different new-to-me stretch velvet dresses that need some teeny-tiny modifications; muscle relaxers and opiates at regularly scheduled intervals means I shouldn't be trusted with scissors or needles.

I'm also having recurring tiny freak-outs, because of bouts of shooting pains down my left leg AND THEN that leg, uh, kinda sorta collapsed out from under me last night. I'm using a walker, yes I know this is a usual thing that happens with sciatica, but holy shit my leg is weak and wobbly and DO NOT WANT NO THANK YOU.

Or as I texted to some friends earlier: Logic brain knows this is a thing with sciatica. BUT THERE IS NO LOGIC BRAIN. ONLY ZUUL.

However, the Stroppy One is pretty much waiting on me hand and foot and is being very sweet. And Rhias suggested that I get a palanquin for when I return to work so I can order my adorable dev bros to carry me around the office. I've got to admit, I like that plan.

Ugh, Dad had that a couple of years ago and it was dreadful. If it's any consolation he's since made a full recovery but it was a miserable winter.

Ugh, sorry you're still having so many issues. Nerve pain is the worst :-(

#1 - This feels interminable but it is only temporary, and hopefully making that your mantra will help you get through it.

#2 (and most importantly) - I can quite certain you could easily convince the dev bros that it was an excellent workout.

I am sorry you are so miserable sweetie. I really hope it passes very soon.

Some lessons learned over the years with a herniated disc. It has happened 3 times since the odds go up for a reoccurrence especially as we age.

The only thing that takes pressure off the spine is to lay flat on your stomach. I bought a cheap massage table on Amazon. I like reading on the iPad for 15 minutes 3 times a day. That got me up and running after a month the first time. You can do this on the bed only its a strain on the neck to hang your head over the edge. It works with care.

Massage table is a bonus for PT exercises to stay off the floor. Core strengthening exercises for a strong core helps protects the back. A good physical therapist will change your life.

My PT taught hubby how to take my leg off the massage table to take pressure off the disc and just hold it. It stops the pain instantly. Hobbled in to PT unable to stand and that little movement gave me relief after a month of pain pills and muscle relaxants.

Strengthening the leg with the sciatica will be a goal in PT so you don't feel it going out from under you. Not a fan of the gym so I do all the work outs at home. Exercise band and a yoga ball for equipment.

If you don't have a standing desk at work get one. Sitting is the worst thing you can do for sciatica.

Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Hugs. Gentle hugs. And if you get a palanquin, I want pictures!
