The Showbox Theatre in Seattle is going to be demolished. "Vancouver, BC-based Onni Group has filed plans to build a 44-story tower with 442 residential units on the Showbox property."
BECAUSE OF COURSE.
I have seen a lot of concerts at The Showbox. I'm horrified this is happening.
EDIT: From the follow-up article: "Wednesday's announcement was only that the developer sent a preliminary notification to the city, no building permits have been issued or decisions made."

That was the fate of ManRay in Cambridge, MA ~ torn down to make modern condos. Not *44* stories though ~ that's taller than Smith Tower! My friends who lived in Manhattan next to the Empire State building were on the 19th floor which felt high enough, and they were maybe 5 floors from the top. I wonder if they're asking for something huge so there will be room for "compromise" with the city planners later?
In more positive, if now somewhat bittersweet thoughts ~ what were a few of your favourite shows there?

I saw Alison Moyet there last year. I'm hopeful they'll get landmark status for it, but I'm still feeling gutted.

God, I have SO MANY good memories at the Showbox. From the early '80s on up to the early aughts.
