(This post's appropriate bandom lyrics brought to you by "20 Dollar Nosebleed" by FOB.)

Soooooo, things. Did I mention that I lost track of dates/times, and I'm actually flying out to Copenhagen on the 26th, not the 27th? The 26th, as in the day of the deadline? I am a genius. (This was booked like this so I could have Sunday in CPH, in the hopes of fighting jet lag. I just somehow forgot that the 26th was OMG the deadline 26th. It'll be okay. I don't have to be at the airport until late afternoon/early evening, so I'll have most of the day for any last-minute nonsense.

Of course, that's not taking into account that a U.S. traveler can possibly denied entry to Europe if their passport is 3 to 6 months away from expiring. For Denmark, some sources say 3 months, some say 6. Guess who just found this out. Guess who's passport expires in 3.5 months? Guess who found out that you can get an expedited passport if your travel in in under two weeks, but ... it takes 8 business days to get the new passport. What? Ahhhh bureaucracy.

So. I've got an appointment at the expedited passport office for Monday, where I'm going to say that I need my passport by Thursday the 25th, and if they can't guarantee that they can do that, I'm not going through with the rest of the appointment. What happens if I can't enter into Europe? Um, dunno?

Hi, I'm stressed. Wait, no. I'm beyond stressed. I'm pretty much numb at this point, and would like to retreat to a cave for a while. :: gibbers ::

OMG ACK!

deep breaths. focus on the text. do what you can to that. it can take all the focus you need to spend on SOMETHING to not think about travel, while you are between doing things you can for that.

I will keep my fingers crossed that everything can be expedited for you in record time.

I bet you'll be fine with the entry, especially as you're not an aimless tourist and have a very specific schedule set up with your local employer (whom they could call if it felt like that was necessary at all), as well as your return ticket. Take steps to expedite, but keep breathing if the window's too close and it seems dubious if they'd get it to you in time. If you need to surrender your current Passport when applying for the expedited one and there's ~any~ doubt at all as to timeframes, I'd definitely choose travelling on the current one.

(And any kind of prior date oversight-aside, it was *very smart* to plan Sunday for recalibrating.)

You can get it the same day so long as you show them your booking that supports why you can't wait for the standard expedited. However, they make the final decision.

How do I know this? At 1 AM the day of our flight to Greece Eytan discovered his passport was expired. It cost about $200 and I had to change our flight time to later in the afternoon.

Yup, it took a couple hours waiting because we didn't have an appointment, but we were able to get sushi lunch after then wander off to the airport.
