Pity it's over $500!

Seriously tho', that's very very close to what I want.

I think it's time to start sending pleading emails to the various seamstresses & designers I know. Because I *have* the velvet, and lining fabric and good-quality fake fur are not difficult to come by.

Hmmmm ... I'm going to take a sample of the wine velvet I have, and see how it looks crushed. Because I DO like how well-done vertically crushed velvet looks ...

Yep, time to start sending pleading emails.

Psst: you could try making it yourself.

bwah-ha-ha-ha!

I've tried making dresses & coats with princess seams, and they never turn out quite right. Not to mention the idea of trying to make something with a lining makes me verrrrrrrry nervous.

I have a seamstress that works for me at www.azacdesigns that is pretty damn good at coats. I am pretty sure we could make that cheaper. Closer to $200.00- $250.00, especially if you have the fabric, because that coat is a rip at that price. Seriously you could by a high end designer coat for that much.
Let me know if you are interested and I can talk to her about exactly what she would charge.

Hmmm. Depending on how the job interview this Tuesday goes, I may take you up on that.

hmmm

I can certainly make you a pattern that would fit you and be the one you wanted. That wouldn't be hard at all.

and, it could be worse. I found the coat I have always wanted there too... So in American, that's what...$1000? (http://www.fairygothmother.com/24-01.htm)

This (http://www.jpeterman.com/cgi-bin/sgdynamo.exe?UID=2004110217174187&HTNAME=html/jp-products/om26/1442.html) is pretty, although the lining is kind of alarming and it would need to have the trim added. Also holy shit on the price.

Oh, I know. I already looked kinda longingly at it. Oddly though, that is the only thing in the current J.Peterman catalog I even vaguely covet. Usually there's oodles and oodles of stuff I want from them (but can't afford).

I'm sure that could be made for about half the price. I would suggest making a mockup for proper fitting beforehand, either via drafting a pattern or modifying an existing one. I've done a lot of work with velvets, and I'd be happy to talk shop or help you out with such a project any time :)

It's a beautiful coat!
