The assorted fires around the PNW have put me in a loop of anxiety, anger, and horrible sinus migraines. The more I think about the stupid kids who started the fires in Oregon with fireworks, the more furious I get.

Yesterday, I had to rinse ash out of the crow's water dish.

Part of the US is on fire, another part is underwater. I'm usually not one to read signs and portents into things, but right now, it's hard not to.

I felt that way with yesterday evening's sun. I'd never seen such an utterly perfect, vibrant deep ruby red such as it was. It was almost like it bled beneath the edge of the mountain rather than simply setting.

Signs point to a greater need for scientific literacy. How we do that, though, I'm not sure.

I'm assuming we're still on for tonight, by the way. I can has cash!

Tuesday one of my coworkers had to go home early to evacuate (the sheriff knocked on the door and told them to leave; her mom was there, they were packed, but she had to drive home and get them out). Everything fine now, but a forest fire that close to Portland? Scares me!
