Whining:

- One of the (many) problems with the hot, dry weather and the air full of smoke from the B.C. wildfires is that it makes my sinuses Very Unhappy and gives me awful sinus headaches. Which, of course, leads me to panicking about what if this is a sign that the injections are wearing off and heralds the return of the tension headaches?! Which it isn't, because not only are my eyes watering, but my neck isn't stiff and my jaw doesn't pop when I yawn. So, just sinus headaches. Just.

- The weather + smoke also means that I have the choice of windows open and aggravating my already angry sinuses, or windows shut and broiling. But when I lamented about this on FB (and everyone said "SHUT THE WINDOWS"), one person suggested filling the bath tub with cold water and putting a box fan in the open bathroom door to help push cool(er) air into the house. It's helping. I also pinned a dark towel up over the kitchen window that is currently curtainless (and only had lace curtains before), and that has also helped reduce the heat.

- Pete is away for three weeks, for two different events. This means the traditional not great sleep while he's gone started last night. But some friends are coming to stay with me next week, which means my hindbrain going "AAAAAAAAAAAH WHAT WAS THAT NOISE?!" and waking me up in the middle of the night will be a bit less. Plus, people I adore! Visiting me!

Adulting:

- I hired the teenage son of a friend to come extensively weed the yard. He came over at 7am today (because he's a weird morning child), and was still working at 10 when I was up. I gave him iced coffee, food, and money, and will absolutely be hiring him again. I hired a teenager to do yardwork! That is totally a sign of being an adult!

... I could have sworn there was other adulting I did, but I can't remember what it was.

Quick, someone tell me I don't need to get this jacket from ChicStar. Because even I kinda-sorta realize that 1) I don't actually need more jackets, and 2) it's too damn warm to be thinking about buying jackets.

Tonight, more swiffering of the floor (because Miss Erzabet No Biting sheds enough for three cats, and Vlad isn't much better), and then bleaching my streaks. AND MAYBE FALLING ASLEEP BEFORE 2:30 IN THE MORNING DESPITE HAVING TAKEN SLEEP MEDS. That would be nice.

Horrible hot weather and nobody else in the house means getting up at ungodly o'clock to do things and going back to bed and napping with the oscillating fan moving the air *above the bed*, not on you. And sleeping until evening when things have cooled off, and then staying up and achieving things until you're ready to sleep again. If you want to rotate your schedule to sleep all day and work all night, well now's a perfectly justifiable time to do that, unless you need to be contact-able during the day.

My body hates hot weather. I'm gonna take a stand and say it's not good.

Oh, um. Thank goodness I don't have spare money running around because I've never seen that website before but now I'm in love with it.

Undressed salad components, chilled hard cooked eggs, deli turkey and provolone rollups, and I'll compensate for the sugar later popsicles.

Yes please, no hot foods. Ooh--strawberries, cherries, white grapes keep down the popsicle craving. Small banana, and/or yogurt with diced peaches or strawberries for breakfast (can't do most cold cereals).

Flexible fabric covered ice packs. I have 2 so as soon as one heats up I switch to the other. I haven't tried those cooling towels yet but my sister said even Florida they were amazing. Feet in a tub of cold water with a fan also divine!

I hate this weather too. The humidity and the choking air. It is terrible here, so it must be much worse in your area, north and closer to the source of the smoke. I tried to walk yesterday for about twenty minutes and my eyes were watering... I don't know how people are riding their bikes or jogging in it; it's unbreatheable.

I am going to try the cold water/box fan idea too--the house is a horrible hotbox even with blackout curtains up! It's supposed to cool off a little this weekend, thank goodness, so I hope that means better sleep and clearer air. I've been thinking about buying cooler-weather things too, like boots and jackets, but I think it's true, it's too hot just yet.

That seems like quite a while for Pete to be away! I am glad you will not be alone for all of it.

Dude! I didn't think teenagers who do yard work even existed anymore. That was a thing that I thought died out back in my day.

I ended up hanging a towel over my front door window, because even with the opaque stuff on, I knew it would be hideous when I left. I don't know if it helped, but the smoke certainly seems to have--I think my cat probably would have died if not for the smoke obscuring the sun! What a world we're living in.

I have an additional window unit that could yes potentially fit in the library window behind the chair, would you like to use it?
