Next week, when I am officially unemployed, I think I will bake cupcakes.

Why?

Because I just found a recipe for rose-flavored ones. I am ridiculously fond of rose or lavender -flavored baked goods, and haven't had any for aaaaages.

hey there! after my wrist surgery on Monday I'll be wanting to hang out with friends and get out of my house while I can't use my hand. Since you'll be unemployed, let me know if you want to get together at all next week. :)

You can still have sugar, right? It's just Lori & Christi that have gone off it? Because if I do bake rose cupcakes, I'll be sure to bring you a few.

Well, any cupcakes actually...

Lori and Christi are completely off of it, and I still splurge from time to time, so yes I'm all good with it...;)

Yes dear. Especially since you would have to take me to the grocery store to get the supplies ...

Oooooo! Did i ever send you the recepie for candied rose petals? They would probably go nicely plopped onto the cupcakes when they're done....especially with a lemon glaze.
I'm keeping my eyes open for good blackberries when i'm in the stores too...i haven't forgotten!

Rose Water Cupcakes
about 24

Ingredients:
2 1/4 cup sifted all purpose flour
1 1/2 cup sugar
3 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup cooking oil
5 egg yolks
3/4 cup water
3 to 4 teaspoons rose water
1 cup egg whites (6 or 7 large eggs)
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar

Preparation:

Make sure your eggs are at room temperature before you begin. Cold eggs don't fluff as well.

Sift the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt together into a very large mixing bowl. Make a well in the dry ingredients. Add, in order, the oil, egg yolks, water, and 3 to 4 teaspoons rose water, beating with a mixer after each addition until smooth.

Beat the egg whites with the cream of tartar in a large bowl until very stiff peaks form. Fold the beaten egg whites into the batter, folding gently with a large spoon. Spoon batter into paper cupcake cups, about 7/8 full.

Bake in 350F oven for 16 - 20 minutes.

Glaze:
1 cup powdered sugar
3 to 4 tablespoons half and half or light cream
1/4 teaspoon rose water
1 or 2 drops red food coloring

Glaze:
With a wire whip, combine the powder sugar, half and half or light cream and 1/4 teaspoon rose water; beat until smooth and of drizzling consistency. Stir in red food coloring to produce a pleasing shade of pale pink. Slowly pour the glaze over the cake, letting it run down the sides.

Those sound wonderful. I love rose and lavender flavored baked goods too.

Flower-flavored pastries, hmmm. I've had rose-flavored ice cream, but it didn't work very well for me. The smell was too closely associated in my brain with soap/lotion. Lavender, however, was a better experiment. I have some lavender Earl Grey tea from the Perennial Tea Room that is just one of my favorite things in the world.

Ooh! I too will be officially unemployed next week. I may have to do some baking as well.

It was so nice to have met you on Saturday. Again, you looked amazing! One day I hope to wear something as spectacular as that. (I am working on it pound by pound!)

I had a great time with everyone. It feels so great to have met so many wonderful people.
