Tzepesh has had a bit of a setback (at least, that's what I'm calling him not eating or drinking), so his meds have been changed, and we're now doing the exciting routine of subcutaneous fluids at home. Today was my first day of poking my cat with a needle and filling him full of liquid, and it went just fine, thank goodness.

He's still not eating, though, and showing signs of nausea. And he's acting very spooked, as if he's having a bad trip. Since one of the possible side-effects of one of his new medications is "agitation", I think that's the culprit.

C'mon, babycat. Eat. I know the kibble the nice vet has you on isn't exciting, but we need you to eat.

Good to know your first run with Sub-Q went OK. Even without food the fluids will make him feel better. Tzepesh is in my thoughts.

Thinking of you guys! We have administered sub-Q's to one of our girls every other day since Xmas week. It does get easier for every one involved... I hope Tzepesh doesn't need them for long, though.

I can't stress this enough and don't do so to worry you love but my cat was having the same symptoms and I really really didn't want to get a feeding tube put in to him because I thought how horrible and traumatic so the vet decided to go along with my wishes for a day. I managed to get him to eat a tiny bit but when I called the vet at night she said a cat can get life threatening liver issues within 24 hours. So push came to shove and I did the darn tube and I have to say it was way less traumatic than I thought. It also made it easy to put food into him and medicine. We ended up having to leave it in for 2 months and at the end I was able to remove it myself and it healed up so well you can't even see where it was. So if you are having any fears about tubing Tzepesh just know it isn't as bad as it sounds. Promise. I even made some little collar things to keep it covered, in place, and clean.

Can he eat babyfood turkey? When my cats have had their weights down and needed more food-food and liquid, the vet recommended stage 1 or stage 2 babyfood - turkey or chicken.

Mom and I, whenever a kitty got sick, would get chicken or beef baby-food; the stinkier the better (so that he can definitively smell it).

We would either entice the cat to eat it off a saucer or a fingertip, and if all else fails, there is the traditional dollop-smeared-right-under-nose-to-induce-licking method.

It's not perfect, but it's something.
