Thanks for all the kind words from Friday. They did help. (So did being taken out for sushi, then being allowed to sulk on the couch watching Auntie Mame and drinking chocolate martinis made w/ pepper vodka.) I am feeling much more like my usual perky self today, even IF my other editor hasn't gotten back to me with more work to do.

Went and saw Pirates on Saturday. Oooooh! Good, mindless fun. Pretty to look at. Swashbuckling! Zombies! Johnny Depp chewing on the scenery! I wanna see it again. And I will now have to decide if my Halloween costume this year will be pirate-themed, or if I'll go with dressing up like Miss Mina Murray from the comics of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

... and the usual makeup. I look vaguely Morticia-like, which pleases me no end.

Unless the Powers That Be change their minds again about the deadline, this is the last week of this contract. While the prospect of unemployment doesn't thrill me, I am looking forward to sleeping in.

I think Pirates is my favorite popcorn flick of the year. Erik was genuinely surprised when I said that I really liked it. But:

- the eye candy can't be beat
- the SPFX are awesome, but don't interfere
- there's a plot. A thin plot, but a plot nonetheless
- Johnny Depp steals the entire movie. Now that's a pirate!
- did I mention the eye candy?
- the proper-yet-unsuitably-uptight fiancé isn't a complete asshole and in fact Does the Right Thing at the end

The only thing I'm missing here is Orlando Bloom getting to play a character with a sense of humor. If he's not careful he's never gonna get to smile onscreen again. That would be sad.
