Two books made me recently think of you: Poison Study is about a woman who is given the choice to be hanged or to be the next food taster. The descriptions of the taste smell and color of poisons is really cool - she is given poison so that she has to go everyday for the anitidote. Then instead of being passive - they teach her everything about poisons.
Madame Mirabou is about a woman post divorce. I did not think I could ever read it, but every chapter started with what a memory smelled like and what scents she could use to make a perfume to match the memory. It was amazing those parts where she thought about memory and made perfumes. And the ideas she had for the perfect bottles.
