I've been sloooooowly getting back into my clothing alteration projects. It turns out the various Torrid size 2 stretch velvet dresses I've been buying are slightly too large for me, so taking in the princess seams it is. Setting up the sewing machine and sitting at it is not great for my back, so I'm doing everything by hand.
Pros:
- I find hand sewing soothing!
- Watching things or listening to audiobooks while sewing!
Cons:
- OMG it takes forever. FOREVVVVVERRRRR.
The other thing I'm doing is cannibalizing a button-up blouse that no longer fits me and making a ... dickie? Over-collar? Over-bodice? thing. It's essentially the front & back of the blouse, including the collar and shoulders but no sleeves, cut to a point back and front, and trimmed along the edges with ruffles made from the rest of the blouse fabric. I'll add narrow (loose!) elastic where the underarms would be on the blouse to help keep it in place, and I can pin the front point to whatever dress I'm wearing it over. I'll post photos when I'm done.
In my head, it looks great. As I'm piecing it together, it looks pretty good. We'll see how the finished product turns out.
