The California trip was lovely. It was almost entirely spent flopping on couches, catching up with friends, and entertaining German Shepherds who thought they were lap dogs. Would I have liked to Go Do Things? Yeah, but not enough to suggest leaving the house.

The Labyrinth Masquerade Ball was gorgeous. So many amazing costumes! I hadn't realized that 1) the event was two nights, and 2) that it took over a sizable chunk of the Biltmore Hotel. It was like a mini convention! (With no vendors' room that I was able to find, alas.) One of the conference rooms was set up as a library displaying works and artefacts of the faerie courts, which was a great way to stage an art show. Two kindly fairy godmother types were overseeing a guest book; they asked me to sign it, and I promptly asked "What am I agreeing to or giving away if I do?" They exchanged glances and one said, "She's so suspicious!" I signed the book, but not with a real name, because I've read waaaaaaay too much folklore. (Yeah yeah, it was a big LARP, but it amused me.)

Speaking of it being a big LARP: the Stroppy One can never attend if I go to this again. Faux British accents were everywhere. EVERYWHERE. Why do people, when LARPING the Fae or ancient vampires, feel they need to put on that accent? It doesn't drive me mad, like it does the Stroppy One, but I still question it.

The few performances I saw were ... okay. The performers were talented, but the performances themselves felt a bit hodgepodge and thrown together. Not to mention that having dancers perform on the main floor instead of a stage means very few attendees will be able to see what's going on.

For my outfit, I wore my black sparkly outfit from the 2023 Vampire Masquerade Ball, but with a big flower crown and a fantastic mask (that was the only thing I didn't have in my collection). I am probably going to use the mask for VMB 2025.

maybe it's easier for most people to do than a fake french or german one? of course, i don't know enough about these things to know what sort of accent they could/should be doing, if any.
