•  The descriptions I write for the Goth at the (Home) Office photos I post elsewhere are always in the tone of comments from an Edward Gorey -style governess, because I amuse myself. Because of this, some people on FB decided to create an Unnerving Governess - Jillian Venters fanpage, where they are all cheerfully writing microfiction as if they're my charges that I keep trying to lose in the hedge maze etc. I am CHARMED by this. I also occasionally comment or post music links.
  • Speaking of music links, I finally got into Spotify because I learned it has a vast library of horror movie soundtracks, which means I can create themed playlists of creepy background music. This pleases me. Plus it gives me something to do while I'm waiting for project managers to hop onto Zoom meetings.
  • I really need to get back to reading book-books, not just fic. I have a few stacks of to-be-read, but night after night I find myself saying "I do not have brain for new story. Emotional support cannibal and FBI profiler it is!".
  • Dad's birthday is next week. His birthday last year was the last time I saw him in person.

I saw dad yesterday (or day before, ugh, wibbly wobbly timey wimey), he is having a tinnitus issue that he is seeing a doctor about this week, but is otherwise doing well. He is keeping sane via the HAM, as usual.

I was planning to turn his vinyl digital now that I have THE THING to do that but life has gotten away from me tremendously so now I have no clue what to do for his birthday.

and yay for microfiction based on you! that's awesome!!

and WOW do I feel you about no brain for books. Some days if feels like I read a novel a day in text messages, and i just *can't* with words on a page while that is happening.

Hey, I'm reading a book you may enjoy enough to get some momentum on it (if you haven't read it already). It's called Mexican Gothic, by Silvia Moreno-Garcia, and it is what it says on the tin, a gothic novel in Mexico. I think you might find the forms and tropes familiar enough to be soothing, while enjoying the new content. But it's just a suggestion, of course.

Today, I think I would have liked to administer some of your 'special tea' to some of my fellow drivers. One should not entertain thoughts of vehicular homicide while one is actually behind the wheel of a vehicle. It's just far too tempting to give in.

I've read some heavy stuff during the pandemic, oddly enough. Shuggie Bain is a terrific book, but it put me through the wringer.

His birthday last year was the last time I saw him in person.

Aw, mayunn. That kind of gap between times I see my mom is normal and, I have to admit, kind of a blessing these days, but coming from you this is terrible.
