Stuff and things, things and stuff

Today is the next-to-last-day of my current work contract. On the one hand, looming unemployment and job-hunting, ugh. On the other hand, time to work on the novel I started writing on New Year's Day, time to finish clearing out the Storage Heap Room o' Doom, and time to make stuff to sell at Mourning Market and my eventually-to-be-launched Etsy store. So, mostly yay, I think.

My Dad, because he is a helper and an enabler, made the brilliant suggestion that I need to find an oversized bird cage to keep my doll in. Like this, or this, or this! (yes yes, clicky-links to eBay.) My friends who have long listened to me talk about my need for decorative cages to keep decorative people in understand why this suggestion is so appealing to me.

Speaking of my Evangeline Ghastly doll, I realized that I'm not entirely decided on her name. I thought it was Lucretia, but then the Stroppy One suggested Pandora. But neither of those seemed to stick, which I think means I haven't found her name yet. Vexing, very vexing.

Awwww! Jake von Slatt over at Steampunk Workshop wrote a very nice review and article about the Gothic Charm School book! (clicky-link!)

And finally, here, have a SFD photo (EDIT: bah, I don't like my expression or how I was tilting my head in this picture, but it shows the details of the outfit):

SFD inquiry

or as the Browncoats call it: "boosting the signal"

A very dear friend is looking for a pair of black button-up black boots (what most muggles would call victorian style) with a flat heel. Suggestions would be greatly and grandly appreciated.

Hmmm, honest-to-goodness button boots? Or boots with button detailing? Because the former are extremely difficult to find.

If boots with button detailing and a *low* heel are okay, then the Whimiscal boots (http://www.clockworkcouture.com/?q=node/192) from Clockwork Couture are fantastic. The Spatterdash Booties (http://www.clockworkcouture.com/?q=node/191) look like they'd be great, but I haven't tried a pair on.

Thank you!

I am given to understand button-detailing (which is good) however zero heel (which sounds like it may be problematic). Are you just going off the standard keywords of buttons/gothic/victorian/steampunk or are there more specific words a neophyte like myself might not know?

Thanks again, Miss J. I truly appreciate it.

Zero heel is going to be problematic, because finding truly flat boots is something like finding a winning lottery ticket; it *could* happen, it's just not very likely. The best option for your friend may be to find a pair of flat lace-up boots that she likes, and then get a pair of nice button-detailed spats from Etsy.

I didn't use any keywords to find those previous boots; I, um, just happen to be very familiar with Clockwork Couture's stock. Go figure. :)
